NEW DELHI, Oct 2 (NNN-PTI) – At least eight persons were killed and many others injured, after a bus carrying nearly 60 passengers fell into a deep gorge, in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu, local police said yesterday.
The mishap occurred in the state’s Nilgiris district, late on Saturday night, when the bus lost control, while navigating the hairpin bend roads, a local policeman confirmed.
The ill-fated bus was on its way from Coonoor to the Tenkasi area, as the passengers, who were on a tour to the scenic Ooty hill station, were returning home. The injured were admitted to a local hospital. Some of them were said to be in critical condition, according to the policeman.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed grief over the mishap and announced monetary compensation to families of the people who died in the accident, and the injured.
