WELLINGTON, Sept 4 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Chinese embassy in New Zealand confirmed today (Wednesday), that six Chinese tourists died, in a serious bus crash near New Zealand’s Rotorua.
An official from the Chinese embassy in New Zealand told Xinhua that, the passengers on the bus belonged to a tour group from China’s Sichuan province.
The Chinese embassy announced that, it launched an emergency response mechanism. Wu Xi, Chinese ambassador to New Zealand, leading the embassy working group, is heading to the scene.
Wu expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and provided assistance to the injured Chinese tourists.
The Chinese embassy urged the New Zealand government to take effective measures, to rescue the wounded, investigate the cause of the accident, as soon as possible, and assist the Chinese to do emergency response work.
New Zealand police confirmed that more than 20 people were on board the bus at the time of the crash.
Police said, a number of those passengers are reported to have been injured and they were being transported to both Waikato and Rotorua.
