81 year old Bill Cosby, once known as “America’s Dad” in the top-rated Cosby Show in the 1980s, was convicted in April of violating Andrea Constand, Temple University women’s basketball administrator.
The punishment was handed down by the Montgomery County Judge Steven O’Neill, saying, “It is time for justice”, and, “Mr Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The time has come.”
Cosby was also fined $34,445.
According to Yahoo7, “The punishment came at the end of a two-day hearing at which the judge declared Cosby a “sexually violent predator” – a ruling that subjects him to monthly counselling for the rest of his life, and requires that neighbours and schools be notified of his whereabouts.”
Cosby declined the opportunity to speak before the sentence came down. His wife Camille was not in court.
“In a statement submitted to the court and released on Tuesday, Constand, 45, said she had to cope with years of anxiety and self-doubt. She said she lived alone with her two dogs and had trouble trusting people.”, reported Yahoo7.
