TUNIS, Apr 19 (NNN-TAP) – Tunisian Minister of Health, Abdellatif Mekki, said that, the number of COVID-19 cases in Tunisia remains moderate, which shows that the country has passed the danger stage.
“The situation would have been better if we were more engaged in general confinement,” Mekki assured, while speaking on regional radio station of Tatouine, a public radio broadcast from the province of Tataouine in southeastern Tunisia.
“And yet, we have passed the stage of danger,” said the Tunisian Minister, stressing the need to respect basic protective measures against the virus.
Tunisian National Security Council decided to extend the nationwide COVID-19 quarantine without specifying the extension period.
“The government will assume the maximum period for it,” according to an official statement.
The quarantine was imposed on Mar 20 for a period of two weeks and then extended for two more weeks till Apr 20.
As of Friday, Tunisia registered a total of 864 confirmed infections with 37 deaths.
