27 Sep 2021; MEMO: The political adviser to Tunisia's Parliament Speaker, Rached Ghannouchi, yesterday denied reports claiming he had delegated his parliamentary powers to his deputy, Samira Chaouachi.
"Mr. Rached Ghannouchi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, is involved in the battle to restore democracy in the country, and he has not delegated his constitutional powers to anyone, as some suspicious websites promote," Riadh Chaibi wrote on social media, adding that "promoting rumours to confuse today's stand demanding the resumption of the democratic path, will not help."
He added that "movement is clear in the direction of freedom, dignity, and democracy".
On Sunday, thousands of Tunisians protested against the exceptional measures taken by Tunisian President Kais Saied in late July, including demanding he restore the power of Parliament.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Saied's supporters also demonstrated in the same area, while security worked to separate the two parties.
