India: Pathak assures strict action against guilty in Kanpur Dehat incident

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has assured strict action against those found guilty in connection with the incident here. 

The two women allegedly died after they immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive.

He further said that a committee has been formed to investigate this matter.

A late-night discussion with the officials in this matter held with the top officials.

India's tax department raids BBC offices in Delhi, Mumbai

NEW DELHI, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Income tax department officials in India Tuesday raided offices of the United Kingdom's national broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in New Delhi and Mumbai, multiple media reports said.

According to the reports, the income tax officials arrived at the BBC offices for searches.

However, some reports quoting their sources said the tax officials carried out a "survey" over allegations of international taxation and transfer pricing irregularities involving the BBC.

Boeing plans new logistics centre in India amid major aircraft order

BENGALURU, India, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) plans to invest about $24 million in India to set up a logistics centre for airplane parts, Salil Gupte, president of the local unit told Reuters on Monday, boosting its footprint in the country amid a large plane order.

India's former state-run carrier Air India, which is now owned by Tata Group, is expected to announce a major deal this week for nearly 500 jets, worth more than $100 billion at list prices, split between Boeing and Airbus, Reuters has reported.

NEW DELHI, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Adani Group sought to reassure investors on Monday, saying it had strong cashflows and its business plans were fully funded, as an Indian regulator confirmed it was investigating a critical report by a short-seller that has battered the group's stocks.

Led by billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, the group's seven listed stocks have together lost about $120 billion in market value since a Jan. 24 report by U.S. short-seller Hindenburg Research accused it of improper use of offshore tax havens and stock manipulation, allegations the group has denied.

Indian Gov’t To Offload Three Million Tonnes Of Wheat To Cool Down Prices

NEW DELHI, Feb 11 (NNN-PTI) – The Indian government said yesterday that, it had decided to offload three million metric tonnes of wheat, under the Open Market Disposal Scheme (OMSS), to cool down prices of wheat and wheat flour.

Junior minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, made the announcement in the upper house of the Indian parliament, locally called Rajya Sabha.

According to the official, the government has taken various steps from time to time to augment domestic availability and control increasing food prices.

The group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, has been roiled by days of market turmoil after Hindenburg Research on Jan. 24 alleged it had engaged in stock manipulation and used tax havens. It also said the group had unsustainable debt.
