Indian Govt to bring new law to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) With Delhi continuing to grapple with increasing levels of pollution, the Centre has decided to soon bring in a new legislation to curb air pollution in the city and NCR, a top official from the Ministry of Environment said.

The new law will be only for Delhi and NCR. It will come out soon. I cannot comment on what penalties it will entail. It is a new law to curb pollution in Delhi NCR region only. Air Act is for the nation and it will be as it is, Environment Secretary, R P Gupta, told PTI.

Delhi's air quality 'very poor'

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was recorded in the 'very poor' category on Monday morning and the share of stubble burning in the city's PM2.5 pollution is likely to increase, according to a central government agency.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor, SAFAR, said the wind direction and the wind speed is favourable for the transport of the pollutants from farm fires in Haryana, Punjab, and other neighbouring regions to Delhi.

Trump accuses China, India and Russia of not taking care of their 'filthy air'

Washington, Oct 23 (PTI) US President Donald Trump on Thursday accused China, India and Russia of not taking care of their filthy air as he justified America's withdrawal from the landmark Paris climate agreement.

"Look at China, how filthy it is. Look at Russia. Look at India. The air is filthy," Trump said during the final presidential debate with his Democratic challenger Joe Biden in Nashville, Tennessee.

Delhi's air quality worsens, 10 monitoring stations enter 'severe' zone

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) Delhi's air quality deteriorated on Friday morning with several areas in the national capital recording 'severe' levels of pollution, according to authorities.

The air quality index (AQI) on Friday was recorded at 374 as compared to 302 on the previous day.

The AQI for Delhi, however, is in the 'very poor' category, the Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) said.

China, Russia and India spewing stuff into air: Trump

500 volunteers fighting fire on Africa's tallest mountain

Nairobi (Kenya), Oct 14 (AP/PTI) Tanzanian authorities say 500 volunteers have been trying to put out a fire on Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest peak. The flames can be seen from miles away.

A Tanzania National Parks statement said Tuesday that the volunteers have managed to limit the fire's spread. Spokesman Pascal Shelutete said the area still burning is known as Kifunika Hill.

He said the cause of the fire has yet to be established. Allan Kijazi, head of Tanzania National Parks, said the fire has consumed 28 square kilometers of vegetation.

Delhi's air quality hits 'very poor' level, first time this season

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was in the very poor category on Tuesday morning, the first time this season, with calm winds and low temperatures allowing accumulation of pollutants.

According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences' Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, an increase in farm fires in Punjab, Haryana and neighbouring regions of Pakistan is also going to impact the air quality in Delhi-NCR.

Delhi govt exempts road tax on battery-operated vehicles

New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) The Delhi government has exempted road tax on battery-operated vehicles under its new Electric Vehicle Policy, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Sunday.

People have been asked to give their suggestions on the exemption of the registration fees of electric vehicles, according to a Delhi government statement. It said an order to waive the fees will be issued in three days.

Delhi gets 'green war room' to monitor pollution levels this winter

New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI) Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Thursday inaugurated a 'green war room' at the Delhi Secretariat to monitor pollution levels in the city this winter.

The minister said a 10-member team has been set up to monitor the levels of primary pollutants, measures taken to curb pollution and status of complaints received through Green Delhi mobile application.

Satellite data related to farm fires in the neighbouring states will also be analysed in the green war room.
