China: COVID-19 cases in Wuhan hospitals reduced to zero for 1st time: official

Beijing/Wuhan, Apr 26 (PTI) The number of hospitalised COVID-19 patients in China's Wuhan, where the virus first emerged before turning out to be a pandemic, on Sunday dropped to zero for the first time, marking yet another milestone for the city which was opened up on April 8 after a 76-day lockdown.

Coronavirus cases cross 3000-mark in Singapore, foreign workers including Indian worst-affected

Singapore, Apr 26 (PTI) Coronavirus cases in Singapore crossed the 13,000-mark on Sunday after 931 positive cases were confirmed with majority of them continued to be foreign workers, including Indian nationals, living in dormitories.

The vast majority of the new cases are work permit holders residing in dormitories for foreign workers, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its preliminary release of figures.

Beijing shuts door on eating wild animals

BEIJING, Apr 26 (APP): Beijing, capital of China, decided to root out any consumption and trade of wildlife in the city by passing a new regulation, imposing even harsher punishments on violators.

Complying with an earlier notice issued by China’s top legislature in February, the new regulation is a prudent response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is believed to be caused by the virus linked to bats, China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported on Sunday.

China-Mongolia Border Port Sees Over 500 China-Europe Freight Trains

HOHHOT, Apr 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – A total of 537 China-Europe freight trains passed through the port of Erenhot in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, as of Thursday, according to customs.

The customs adopted various measures, to raise efficiency and ensure the safety and stability of the freight trains, amid the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, said Nie Weidong, an officer with the customs department.

The customs also improved the customs clearance and other services, relying on the internet and other platforms.

Low-tech Japan challenged in working from home amid pandemic

TOKYO (AP) — When the Japanese government declared an emergency to curb the spread of the coronavirus earlier this month and asked people to work from home, crowds rushed to electronics stores.

Many Japanese lack the basic tools needed to work from home. Contrary to the ultramodern image of Japan Inc. with its robots, design finesse and gadgetry galore, in many respects the country is technologically challenged.

Beijing, Apr 25 (PTI) China has approved its third coronavirus vaccine for the second phase of clinical trials as it reported 12 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections in the country to 82,816.

China has approved three coronavirus vaccines, including the one developed by Chinese military, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for clinical trials.

Ready to cooperate with Indian agencies: Chinese suppliers of rapid test kits

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Two Chinese pharma companies, which supplied 5.5 lakh rapid testing kits for COVID-19 to India, said they are ready to cooperate with Indian agencies looking into allegations of poor accuracy of their products.

In separate statements, Guongzhou Wondfo Biotech and Livzon Diagnostics said they follow strict quality control of their products, asserting that specified guidelines must be followed in storage of the kits as as well in their usages to get accurate results.

China sent team including medical experts to advise on North Korea’s Kim

BEIJING/SEOUL (Reuters) - China has dispatched a team to North Korea including medical experts to advise on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to three people familiar with the situation.

The trip by the Chinese doctors and officials comes amid conflicting reports about the health of the North Korean leader. Reuters was unable to immediately determine what the trip by the Chinese team signaled in terms of Kim’s health.
