Attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq, Syria not related to Iran: minister

Ahmad Vahidi

TEHRAN, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the attacks on U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria over the past days were not related to Iran.

He made the remarks in an interview with the Iranian Students' News Agency published on Wednesday, during which he rejected the accusations by Washington that "Tehran has been behind the attacks by anti-U.S. groups on the American bases" in a number of the regional countries.

Vahidi said, "Israel is committing its crimes in Gaza with the U.S. green light," and the U.S. may be targeted as the "main culprit" anywhere as it is "managing the conflict."

Over the past days, the U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq were targeted by multiple attacks, which Washington blamed on "Pro-Iran fighters."

Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, firing thousands of rockets and infiltrating Israeli territory, to which Israel responded with massive airstrikes, ground operations, and punitive measures, including a siege on the Gaza Strip with supplies of water, electricity, fuel, and other necessities being cut off.

The Israel-Hamas conflict has killed more than 8,500 Palestinians in Gaza and at least 1,400 people in Israel, according to official figures from both sides.
