UNITED NATIONS, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Wednesday reiterated the importance of a credible, free, fair and peaceful presidential election to be held in Guinea-Bissau on Nov. 24.
The Security Council called upon leaders of all political parties in Guinea-Bissau to continue to refrain from incitement of followers towards any violent action.
The members of the council underscored the need for an inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders to consolidate peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau, in compliance with the Conakry Agreement and the Economic Community of West African States Roadmap.
October 2016 Conakry Agreement is the primary framework for a peaceful resolution of the political crisis in the country.
The West African country has been in a political crisis since August 2015, when President Jose Mario Vaz deposed Prime Minister Domingos Simoes Pereira, his main political rival.
