Kanpur: Dayanand Anglo-Vedic Degree College students raised the demand for students' union elections before the principal but they indulged in a rampage after his denial. They not only set the furniture on fire but damaged properties. When they learnt of the police force entering into the college campus they fled away raising slogans.
Following the announcement of the union elections in another BND college, the DAV college students led by their two leaders also met the college principal Amit Srivastava on Saturday. He later moved out of the room.
Hearing their demands properly the principal asked them to produce a copy of the High Court's order. Thereupon the students requested him to show order copy prohibiting procedure of poll. In turn, the principal further asked them to bring that order copy too.
Dissatisfied with this conversation, the students created ruckus on the campus. They set the abandoned old furniture on fire and damaged chairs and tables.
Looking at such an odd situation the college proctorial board members pacified them. They were told to leave. Meanwhile, more students came and reached North Hall auditorium. They disrupted the class and told the students to leave the class. Afterwards, they burnt furniture pouring some highly fire catching petroleum liquid.
Acting swiftly the principal called the police on campus. Sensing the arrival of the police the agitating students fled away. The college principal said that a written complaint was given to the police adding that the video footage would also be presented to the police.
