Iran Supports Syrian Constitutional Committee In Peace Process: Official

TEHRAN, Oct 22 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran supports role of Syrian national constitutional committee, in the country’s political peace process, senior assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Ali Asghar Khaji, said yesterday.

“Building trust among members of the committee is the principled position of Iran,” Khaji was quoted as saying.

The Iranian official made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Russian President’s Special Syrian Envoy, Alexander Lavrentiev.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the latest developments in Syria, including the political process for Syria’s conflicts, the situation in Syria’s Idlib, and the country’s economic and humanitarian condition.

The two sides stressed the role of the Astana peace process in supporting and strengthening the Syrian national constitutional committee.

Iran and Russia have been major allies of the Syrian government against the armed rebels, since 2011.
