Kanpur: Three persons were reportedly killed after a roof of a house collapsed in Kanpur on Thursday, the police said.
Talking to the media, Anoop Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East Kanpur said that a woman, her son and daughter were declared dead by the doctors.
The roof of a house was collapsed early in the morning. The police reached the place of the incident.
An injured person's condition is stated to be stable. He is the husband of the deceased woman. The 35-year-old woman and her two children, aged seven and four years, were killed when the building collapsed in the congested Heeraman Purwa locality.
One of the injured happens to be a member of the fire brigade department and the other is the husband of the deceased woman. Both of them are stable and undergoing treatment, the police said.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Anwargunj, Mohammad Akmal Khan said the three-storey building was about 70 years old and 11 families (41 persons) lived in it.
Raju, the injured man, and his family lived on the first floor. When the roof collapsed Rukhsana, his wife, and their children were killed.
Raju was trapped under the debris. Fire brigade member Deependra Kumar also sustained injuries in taking out injured.
The police rescued all the other occupants, who were on different floors of the house.
Mayor Pramila Pandey said the Kanpur municipal corporation would work on identifying houses in bad shape in the city.
Earlier, a fire department team rushed to the spot for a rescue operation. All of them was reported to be trapped in the rubble after the fall of the roof.
The report of the roof collapse was sent to the PCR of Bacon Ganj Police Station at around 6:24 a.m.," informs MP Singh, Fire Security Officer.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials concerned to reach the spot immediately. They were also directed to carry out relief works to help the victims in all possible ways.
