Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and JK Cement Limited have cooperated to work on a super speciality hospital on campus (SMRT), as a part of the Institution's ambition to build a School of Medical Research and Technology.
Among those who signed the pact were Abhay Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur, and Raghavpat Singhania, managing director of JK Cement Ltd.
The partnership is part of IIT Kanpur's commitment to bring about a paradigm shift in the country's approach to medical research and innovation.
The first phase of the project will include the construction of a 400-bed super speciality hospital, academic residential and service buildings, and a total built-up area of roughly 7,00,000 square feet.
Phase 2 of the hospital will include 1000 beds, growth of clinical departments, centers, research areas, integration of paramedical disciplines, alternative medicine, hospital administration, and a public health programme.
It is expected to take 7 to 10 years to finalize. The proposed hospital will be associated with the School of Medical Research and Technology. It will play an important role in driving IIT- K's designs in medical research and technology.
