India: PCB acts against seven tanneries polluting around airport

Kanpur: As many as seven tanneries were closed in Pyodi area here. It is the place where airport has been built. 

As reported the leather put for drying used to invite birds thereby hampering the smooth flying of aircraft.

All the tanneries were installed in areas around the Chakeri airport wall here.

Actually, the leather prepared in these tanneries was put outside for drying. The aircraft flying over was getting affected due to presence of birds.

Recently, a meeting of Air Force officers along with tne District Magistrate Visakh ji was held for solving this problem.

It was decided that all the tanneries installed in the areas around the airport wall would be surveyed.

Seven tanneries were found in the survey, installed in the agricultural area. These were reportedly spreading pollution.

For this reason these tanneries were closed after snapping the electricity supply.

Amit Mishra, Regional Officer of Pollution Control Board said that it has been validated that a large amount of harmful pollution has been emanating from the tanneries.

Four teams were formed to initiate the  inspection of the tanneries.
