PARIS, October 13. /TASS/: Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Thursday adopted a resolution on the conflict in Ukraine where they accused Russia of "terrorism," according to a statement on the council’s website.
Of the 612 members of the council, just 100 were in attendance, and 99 of them voted for the inclusion of an amendment that calls Russia a "terrorist regime." One member abstained.
Statements by PACE, which is an advisory organization, are not binding.
The resolution is calling on PACE member countries to put pressure on Russia. It also calls to provide financial support for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Earlier on Thursday, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky appealed to PACE via a video link to be the first organization in the world to recognize Russia as a "terrorist country." The amendment containing the accusation was included in the resolution after it was proposed by 8 PACE members, mostly from Ukraine and the Baltics.
State Duma Committee on International Affairs Chairman Leonid Slutsky said in June that Russia is no longer a member of the Council of Europe and its parliamentary assembly. The lawmaker said that "Russophobic decisions and resolutions by PACE have absolutely no significance for Russia and the platform no longer has anything constructive to offer.".
