India: Corporator raises residents' query

KANPUR: Though voting has been completed in the city, the residents are still infuriated at the deletion of their names from the voter’s list. A complaint containing their demands like who is responsible for deletion of their names, what is the responsibility of BLO, why were dead voters’ name not deleted, how has polling booth changed, why do names of a family not come in a serial. N Pandit, corporator, has submitted a letter to ADM (city) Vivek Srivastava here on Friday.

Various names have been removed in several localities. Several people were found looking for their names in the list but unfortunately, they could not succeed. The booth level official does not take the matter seriously. There were several people whose names did not include in the voters’ list despite depositing the form within the date.

Even the Corporator criticized the BLO’s irresponsible attitude when thousands of residents living in Govind Nagar locality found their names obliterated from the list. He pointed out as many as 440 residents have complained about this anomaly. If a satisfactory response does not come he would meet the district magistrate once again with a fresh complaint of 1000 people on Monday. He also added that he could go to the court too.

The residents feel it was their democratic right to vote. One resident told the lax booth level official should be made accountable for this anomaly. This was the extreme of irresponsibility.

When the election commission wants inclusion of names why do BLOs show indifferent stance? Dozens of women were waiting for inclusion of their names in the voter’s list and even submitted the Form-6 in Cantt area but they failed to find their entry. Thus they were moaning about the loss of voting opportunity in this edition of the parliamentary elections.
