JAKARTA, June 17 (NNN-ANTARA) – Students in Indonesia will get back to schools, located in low-risk areas, under tight health protocols, after the closure of education facilities for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indonesian Education Minister, Nadiem Makarim, said, senior high schools and junior high schools will be reopened gradually, starting next month, while elementary schools and kindergartens will resume schooling activities in Sept and Nov respectively, media reported.

16 June 2020; MEMO: The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation yesterday warned that more than 50,000 children under the age of five could die this year in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) due to the disruption in the health systems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday said that he has been hospitalised after suffering from high-grade fever and a sudden drop in his oxygen level.

He tweeted to inform that he was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) here, a dedicated COVID-19 facility under the Delhi government.

"Due to high grade fever and a sudden drop of my oxygen levels last night I have been admitted to RGSSH. Will keep everyone updated," Jain tweeted.

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster on Tuesday handed over the first tranche of 100 ventilators to India to assist in the country's fight against COVID-19, the Indian Red Cross Society said.

President Donald Trump had announced in May that the US will donate ventilators to India to treat COVID-19 patients and help it fight the "invisible enemy".

BERLIN, June 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The German government intends to invest 300 million euros (338 million U.S. dollars) in local biotechnology company CureVac, the country’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy announced here on Monday.

The investment aims to support further, development of the German company and its projects in the pipeline, according to a joint statement by CureVac and the ministry. CureVac is currently developing a coronavirus vaccine.

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 16 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Brazil reported Monday that, its COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 43,959, as 888,271 people have tested positive for the coronavirus nationwide.

In the past 24 hours, the disease claimed 627 lives, and 20,647 new infections were detected, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

The southeast state of Sao Paulo is hit the hardest, with 181,460 infections and 10,767 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 80,946 infections and 7,728 deaths; and Ceara, with 79,462 cases and 4,999 deaths.

SINGAPORE, June 16 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore’s Multi-Ministry Task-force decided to start phase two of re-opening, after 11:59 p.m. June 18, when most activities, apart from a small list of exceptions, will be resumed.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that, subject to some safe distancing principles, retail businesses might re-open their physical outlets in the new phase, while food and beverage dine-in would be allowed, personal health and wellness and home-based services would be resumed, and sports, parks and other public facilities would open.

KANPUR: One said: "The corona has made us so scared as we had to think thrice before venturing to come out of the house." Another conscientious resident told: "It was time to observe complete attention to maintain the precautions."

There is no end to the fresh cases of the coronavirus. More corona cases were reported after the lockdown finished in the city here. People were embracing cautions like wearing a face mask, social distancing and others but one or more patients were emerging day after day.

Beijing, Jun 15 (PTI) China has begun the mass testing of hundreds of people who had visited a Beijing wholesale market which sparked a fresh bout of coronavirus cases even as the country reported 67 new COVID-19 infections including 42 in the capital.

In a bid to stem the spread of the contagion, the authorities in Beijing have conducted the nucleic acid test on 29,386 people who had visited the Xinfadi wholesale market since May 30, Gao Xiaojun, spokesman for the Beijing Health Commission, said on Monday.

New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the leaders of all political parties of Delhi on Monday to discuss about the novel coronavirus situation, officials said.

The meeting was held in the wake of rising novel coronavirus cases in Delhi.

Shah apprised the leaders of four major political parties of Delhi on the steps taken to check the coronavirus pandemic and sought their views on the issue, a Home Ministry official said.
