Delhi violence: Distraught father awaits son's return

New Delhi, Feb 28 (PTI) Yunus, 38, has been making frantic rounds of hospitals and mortuaries for the last five days, hoping to find his 16-year-old son Yusuf.

A Class XI student, Yusuf left his home in northeast Delhi's Chand Bagh, which has been wracked by violence for days, on Sunday to go to an eatery and hasn't returned since.

India: Paswan seeks impartial probe into Delhi violence

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) BJP ally and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday demanded an "impartial probe" into the Delhi violence, which claimed at least 34 lives, and said stringent action should be taken against the guilty irrespective of their caste and religion.

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader said the visit of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to riot-hit areas to interact with locals and review the security measures underlines the Union government's seriousness in the matter.

India: Northeast Delhi mosques appeal for peace

New Delhi, Feb 28 (PTI) Local mosques in northeast Delhi appealed on Friday for maintaining peace and harmony in the riot-hit area.

The mosques appealed to people to be united and not fall prey to rumours, urging people to report about suspicious people to the authorities and cooperate with the police.

"In case of any emergency, please call on 112," the announcement said.

Delhi violence: Toll rises to 39, some signs of normalcy

New Delhi, Feb 28 (PTI) The death toll in Delhi's communal violence rose to 39 on Friday as clouds of smoke cleared to reveal the extent of the damage from the worst riots in the city in more than three decades and people gingerly stepped out for work and opened shops and other establishments.

While civic workers swept the streets and bylanes of northeast Delhi littered with bricks, broken glass and other detritus of three days of communal clashes, some shopkeepers sorted through the charred remains of their vandalised and burnt shops.

Russian delegation on India visit to boost economic ties

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) A Russian delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers is on a visit to India and held meetings with Indian businesses to deepen the bilateral economic partnership.

Georgy Muradov, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Crimea to the President of the Russian Federation, is leading the delegation on a working visit to India.

Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 34

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) Seven more fatalities have been recorded at three hospitals, taking the total death toll in the northeast Delhi communal violence over the amended citizenship law to 34 on Thursday, according to senior officials.

Till Wednesday night, the total count of casualties had stood at 27, 25 of those at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden.
