India's hiring outlook bleakest in 15 yrs: Survey

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) India is witnessing the weakest hiring sentiment in 15 years with just 3 per cent companies planning to add staff in the next three months, a survey of over 800 employers said on Tuesday.

According to the ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, that covered 813 firms across India, Indian employers report cautious hiring plans for the final quarter of 2020.

India scaling up production of active pharmaceutical ingredients: Kant

Washington, Sep 8 (PTI) India, a global hub for generic drugs, has launched a new scheme to boost production of active pharmaceutical ingredients that are greatly dependent on the Chinese supply chain, according to NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.

Speaking at the 14th Annual BioPharma and Healthcare Summit, he said India is now gearing up for innovation in its pharmaceutical ecosystem focusing on speedy and scaled up delivery of new vaccines and personalised medicines.

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Asserting that proper nutrition is vital to build a prosperous nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for undertaking efforts to reach out to people across the country to spread awareness on eradicating malnutrition.

With the 'Psohan Maah' (nutrition month) 2020 starting from Monday, Modi said in tweets that this exercise will help India's youth and women force.

He noted that India is home to numerous healthy dishes and asked people to share them on @mygovIndia, the citizen engagement platform of the Union government.

India: AG K K Venugopal in self-quarantine

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Attorney General K K Venugopal is in self-quarantine, the Supreme Court was informed on Monday as the Centre sought adjournment in a matter related to filling of vacancies in tribunals.

A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Hemant Gupta was requested by Additional Solicitor General S V Raju that a short adjournment be granted in the case as the AG, who is appearing in the matter, is in self-quarantine.

India: 2 members of banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa held

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Two suspected members of banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International have been arrested following a brief exchange of fire in northwest Delhi, police said on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Bhupender alias Dilawar Singh and Kulwant Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, the police said, adding that they were also wanted in some cases in Punjab.

The special cell of Delhi Police nabbed the two on Saturday night, they said.

Indian Fin Min Sitharaman blaming gods for failure of economy: Raut

Mumbai, Sep 6 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was blaming gods for failure of India's economy.

In his weekly column Rokhthok in the Sena mouthpiece Saamana, Raut also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks on all issues, but refuses to touch the issue of "failing economy" and related issues.

The senior Congress leader also suggested some measures to raise money which include relaxing FRBM norms, accelerating disinvestment and borrowing money from global banks.

India: Kejriwal kickstarts Delhi govt's anti-dengue campaign

New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) The Delhi government's 10-week anti-dengue campaign kicksarted on Sunday, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal checking his house for stagnant water.

The campaign seeks to build greater awareness on prevention of vector-borne diseases in Delhi.

"Honourable Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal kickstarted the anti-dengue campaign by removing the stagnant clean water at his residence. He said that like last year, two crore Delhiites will come together to make this initiative successful and to defeat dengue," the Chief Minister's Office tweeted.

India: Over 90,000 COVID-19 cases recorded in single day

New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) India's COVID-19 tally of cases went past 41 lakh with a record 90,632 people being infected in a day, while 31,80,865 people have recuperated so far pushing the national recovery rate to 77.32 per cent on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 41,13,811, while the death toll climbed to 70,626 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 1,065 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India: COVID snag in bullet train project, may fail to meet 2023 deadline

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, which is scheduled to be completed by December 2023, may fail to meet its deadline due to the coronavirus pandemic that has led to delays in opening tenders and land acquisition, officials said.
