India: Man in Delhi tests positive for monkeypox

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) A 34-year-old man from the national capital with no history of foreign travel has tested positive for monkeypox virus, official sources said on Sunday.

This is the fourth case of the disease being reported in India.

The man had attended a stag party recently in Manali in Himachal Pradesh, official sources told PTI.

A resident of West Delhi, the man was admitted to the Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital here around three days ago after he showed symptoms of monkeypox.

India: Murmu takes oath as 15th President

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Droupadi Murmu on Monday took oath as the 15th President of India.

Chief Justice of India N V Ramana administered her oath at a ceremony held at Parliament's Central Hall in the presence of former president Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi amongst others.

She took the oath in the name of god in Hindi.

India: Kejriwal urges Delhiites to have precaution Covid doses

New Delhi, July 17(PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to Delhiites to get the COVID-19 precaution doses saying only around 10 per cent people have done so far in the city.

He also appealed to the parents of children in the age group 12-17 years to get them administered second dose of the vaccine.

The chief minister said the government will also set up camps in schools for vaccination of children. The school authorities may contact the local district administration officials for the purpose, he said.

India: Journalist and Alt News co-founder Zubair's bail plea to be heard by local court on Jul 14

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) A Delhi court on Tuesday posted for July 14 hearing on a bail plea filed by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair in a case related to an objectionable tweet he had posted in 2018 against a Hindu deity.

Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala adjourned the hearing for Thursday after the prosecution sought time for a detailed argument in the matter.

India: SC extends activist Varavara Rao's interim protection, to hear his bail plea on July 19

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hear Bhima Koregaon case accused P Varavara Rao's plea for permanent medical bail on July 19 and extended his interim protection till further orders.

The 83-year-old, who has challenged the Bombay High Court order rejecting his petition for permanent medical bail, is currently on bail on medical grounds and was to surrender today.

Indian premier greets Turkish president on Eid al-Adha

India projected to surpass China as world's most populous country during 2023: UN report

United Nations, Jul 11 (PTI) India is projected to surpass China as the world's most populous country next year, according to a report by the United Nations on Monday which said that the world population is forecast to reach eight billion by mid-November 2022.

The World Population Prospects 2022 by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, said that the global population is projected to reach eight billion on November 15, 2022.

India: 'I hang my head in shame': Kapil Sibal on state of Indian judiciary

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) Expressing concern over the current state of the judiciary, Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal on Sunday said some members of the institution have "let us down" and "I hang my head in shame" for what has happened in the recent past.

In an interview with PTI, Sibal also said that in recent years, free speech, and how it has been interpreted by the Supreme Court, unfortunately, is not allowed the space that is constitutionally permissible to it.

India: Active Covid cases rise to 107,189 in country

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) India added 17,070 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,34,69,234, while the active cases increased to 107,189, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll climbed to 525,139 with 23 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
