Trudeau Confirms Extending Canada-U.S. Border Restrictions For Another 30 Days

OTTAWA, Apr 19 (NNN-XINHUA) – Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, made clear that Canada and the United States have agreed to extend cross-border restrictions to all non-essential travel for another 30 days, to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“This is an important decision and one that will keep people on both sides of the border safe,” Trudeau said, at his press conference, outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia Registers 1,132 New COVID-19 Cases

RIYADH, Apr 19 (NNN-SPA) – Saudi Arabia registered, on Saturday, 1,132 new COVID-19 cases, and 79 percent of them are expatriates, it was reported.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Health, Mohammed Al-Abdulali, told the daily press briefing that, Mecca tops the affected cities with 315 cases, followed by Jeddah, 236, Riyadh, 225, Madinah, 186, and Dammam, 88.

The total infections in the country is 8,274 with 6,853 active cases undergoing medical treatment. There are 78 cases in critical conditions and the others are stable.

India: 22 policemen quarantined in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Apr 18 (PTI) Twenty-nine policemen were quarantined in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Saturday after a man, who engaged in an altercation with them at a checkpost a few days ago, tested positive for coronavirus, an official said.

Thirteen policemen were posted in Halti Barrier, 11 in Sihunta police station and five homeguard jawans in Sihunta of Chamba district, Director General of Police Sita Ram Mardi said.

India: 26 Navy personnel test positive for coronavirus

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) At least 26 Indian Navy personnel have tested positive for coronavirus at the Western Naval Command in Mumbai, in first case of a major outbreak of the deadly disease in the Indian armed forces.

All the infected sailors were serving at the INS Angre, a shore-based logistics and support establishment, and they are undergoing treatment at a Navy hospital, official sources said.

Delhi Police head constable tests positive for COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) A 44-year-old Delhi Police head constable tested positive for coronavirus, officials said on Friday.

The head constable was posted at Bara Hindurao Hospital in north Delhi, they said.

He lives in Khajuri area and his family members have been asked to be in quarantine, the officials said.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava approved a grant of Rs 1 lakh to any officer/staff who tests positive for COVID-19 while discharging his or her duty.

India: Police officer dies of COVID-19 in Ludhiana

Chandigarh, Apr 18 (PTI) An assistant commissioner of police, who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Ludhiana, died on Saturday.

"Sad News ACP Anil Kohli passed away. Died of #COVID-19. Was admitted in SPS Hospital Ludhiana," Ludhiana district public relations office tweeted.

ACP Anil Kohli had tested positive for coronavirus a few days ago.

On Friday, the Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the hospital to conduct plasma therapy on the police officer.

India: Death toll due to COVID-19 rises to 480; cases climb to 14,378

While the number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 11,906, as many as 1,991 people have been cured and discharged, and one had migrated, it said

Around 1,200 Cuban doctors fight pandemic worldwide

HAVANA, April 18 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — About 1,200 Cuban health professionals have joined the battle against Covid-19 around the globe, Bruno Rodriguez, minister of Foreign Affairs, said.

On his Twitter account, Bruno Rodriguez posted that 21 medical brigades have taken Cuban solidarity to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America and the Caribbean, in times of pandemic.

On Thursday, Cuba´s Foreign Ministry stated that this country has responded to medical assistance requests without evaluating political differences or economic advantages.

Many migrants on US deportation flight had coronavirus, Guatemalan President says

GUATEMALA CITY, April 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei said a large number of migrants on a deportation flight to Guatemala from the United States this week were infected with the coronavirus, adding that US authorities had confirmed a dozen cases.

Giammattei said 12 randomly selected people on the deportation flight tested positive for coronavirus when examined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

He suggested more on the flight had tested positive as well.

Covid-19: Outbreak at Philippine jail fuels calls for prisoner releases

MANILA, April 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Eighteen guards and inmates at a jam-packed Philippine prison have tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said, heightening fears of a rapid spread of the illness inside the country’s jails.

Another 30 prisoners were showing symptoms inside the Quezon City Jail in the capital Manila – a facility so crowded that inmates take turns sleeping on staircases and open-air basketball courts.
