UAE Announces Rise In COVID-19 Recoveries To 1,546

ABU DHABI, Apr 23 (NNN-WAM) – The UAE announced that, an additional 103 patients had recovered from the COVID-19, after receiving the necessary medical care, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,546.

During the regular media briefing held in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson of the UAE’s health sector, said, some 31,809 additional tests were conducted across various emirates, leading to the identification of 483 new cases, among various nationalities and bringing the total number of cases in the country to 8,238.

China's COVID-19 cases fall below 1,000 for first time

BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- China has seen its current number of confirmed COVID-19 cases dropped to 959 on Wednesday, the first time for the number to fall below 1,000, the National Health Commission said at a press conference.

By the end of Wednesday, more than half of the imported cases in China have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, said Mi Feng, spokesperson for the commission, at the press conference on Thursday. 

India: Locals hurl stones at cops for enforcing lockdown in Guj

Ahmedabad, Apr 22 (PTI) At least four policemen, including a senior inspector, were injured after locals threw stones at them for enforcing the COVID-19 lockdown at a locality in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city on Wednesday, an official said.

As many as 15 residents of Sardarnagar area were detained and the process of lodging an FIR was initiated, inspector M B Barad of Sardarnagar police station said.

India: Corona death touches 640; cases rise to 19,984

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 640 and the number of cases to 19,984 in the country on Wednesday, according to the Union health ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases is 15,474, while 3,869 people have been cured and discharged, and one patient has migrated, the ministry said.

US Senate approves new US$480b COVID-19 relief plan

The essential job-saving measure, which passed by unanimous consent after more than a week of negotiations between Democrats, Republicans and the White House, now heads to the House of Representatives where a vote could occur as early as Thursday.

Afghan president tested corona negative after palace outbreak

KABUL, April 22 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has tested negative for the coronavirus, an official said, days after news leaked out of an outbreak among his staff.

“The President is healthy and is leading government efforts on all fronts. All precautions are in place to make sure his work environment is safe and healthy,” Ghani’s spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said on Twitter.

Tests at Abu Dhabi hospital draw hundreds to queue

ABU DHABI, April 22 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A queue outside an Abu Dhabi emergency department stretches across a road as hundreds of mostly low-income migrant workers wait, two meters apart, to be tested for the new coronavirus.

The United Arab Emirates is ramping up testing as it tries to control the spread of the virus, which has infected at least 7,755 and killed 46 in the Gulf state. It aims to cover all UAE citizens and residents, the health ministry said on Monday.

Bangladesh: 719 foreigners leave by special flights, 259 Bangladeshis returns

DHAKA, April 22 (NNN-BSS) — Five special flights including one from Bangladesh Air Force bring back 259 Bangladeshis and taking away 719 foreigners from here amid ongoing flight suspension due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the Bangladeshi nationals, 169 arrived here from India, 70 from the Maldives and 20 from Turkey while 301 US citizens, 264 Britons and 154 Turkish nationals left here for their respective countries by separate chartered flights.
