Indian Polls: Cong fields Shatrughan Sinha from Patna Sahib

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) The Congress Saturday fielded actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha as its Lok Sabha poll candidate from the Patna Sahib constituency in Bihar, hours after he joined the party quitting the BJP.

The 72-year-old Sinha, the incumbent MP from the seat, will face senior BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The Congress also announced that former Himachal Pradesh minister Ramlal Thakur will contest from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat in the state against sitting BJP MP Anurag Thakur.

Indian Polls: Ambedkar says will jail EC if voted to power

Mumbai, Apr 4 (PTI) A case was registered against Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar on Thursday for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Election Commission (EC), police said.

Earlier in the day, addressing an election rally at Digras in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, Ambedkar said he would jail the EC for two days if voted to power.

Indian Polls: 10 lakh voters added last week: EC

New Delhi, Apr 4 (PTI) The Election Commission (EC) Thursday said as many as 10 lakh voters were added to the electoral rolls across the country last week, including four lakh first timers.

It also said that "all preparations" are being made for a smooth conduct of the first and second phases of the Lok Sabha polls, in which over 2,900 candidates are in the fray.

"We have added 10 lakh voters to the list, including four lakh new voters who are in the age group of 18-19," Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena told reporters here.

Indian Polls: Stay on PM biopic: SC agrees to hear Congress' plea

New Delhi, April 4 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday agreed to hear on April 8 a Congress leader's plea seeking stay on release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench headed by Justice S A Bobde said it will hear the plea on Monday.

Senior advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for petitioner advocate Aman Panwar, spokesperson of the Congress, said two high courts have refused to interfere with the release of the movie starring Vivek Oberoi.

Indian Polls: BJP tops political advertisers chart on Google, Cong ranked 6th

New Delhi, Apr 4 (PTI) The BJP has topped the chart of political advertisers on Google with an advertisement spent share of around 32 per cent, while its rival Congress is ranked sixth with a meagre 0.14 per cent share.

Political parties and their affiliates have spent Rs 3.76 crore on advertisements since February 19, 2019, according to the internet giant's Indian Transparency Report released Thursday.

Indian Polls: AAP, Cong discuss seat sharing for Delhi

New Delhi, April 4(PTI) The Congress and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have resumed talks to discuss the seat sharing formula for the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital, sources said on Thursday.

The speculation of a tie-up between both the parties got a boost with AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh meeting All India Congress Committee (AICC) incharge of Delhi PC Chacko on Wednesday evening.

Indian Polls: EC may not prevent release of Modi biopic

New Delhi Apr 3 (PTI) The Election Commission is unlikely to prevent the release of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and may leave it to the CBFC to take a call on the issue, poll panel sources said Wednesday.

Opposition parties including the Congress, had alleged the film will give undue advantage to the BJP in electioneering and its release should be deferred till the elections are over.

Indian Polls: EC issues notice to railways over PM Modi's picture

New Delhi, Apr 2; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Election Commission Tuesday called the railways approach towards enforcing the model code of conduct "lackadaisical" after allegations that poll norms were violated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's picture on tickets and the slogan "Main Bhi Chowkidar" on tea cups.

The poll panel has issued a notice to the railways, asking it to submit a report by Thursday on the slogan on tea cups, so that it can take a call on whether it was a poll code violation.

Indian Polls: 200+ writers urge Indians to vote out 'hate politics'

New Delhi, Apr 2; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, over 200 writers from across the country have appealed to Indian citizens to caste their votes in favour of a "diverse and equal India", and help eliminate the politics of hate.

In an open letter published on the Indian Cultural Forum, writers including Girish Karnad, Arundhati Roy, Amitav Ghosh, Nayantara Sahgal, and Romila Thapar said hate politics was being used to divide the country, create fear and increasingly exclude more number of people from living as "full-fledged citizens".
