Indian Polls: Pakistani Hindus in Jodhpur can sway LS polls

Jodhpur, Apr 28 (PTI) Not long ago, Pakistani Hindus living in Jodhpur held little political sway. However, as time passed and they grew in numbers, the community has emerged as an important vote bank, with manifestos of political parties promising to fulfill their basic needs like water and electricity.

According to Hindu Singh Soda, who runs a charity here for Pakistani Hindus, around 20,000 members of the community in Jodhpur are eligible to vote.

New Delhi, Apr 28 (PTI) Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his stance on caste and his "origins as a chaiwala", senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday asked if the PM considers people a "bunch of idiots" who have suffered memory loss.

The former finance minister's scathing attack on the Prime Minister came a day after Modi said in Kannauj that he does not believe in politics of caste.

Indian Polls: Gadkari faints during campaign rally

Shirdi (Maha), Apr 27 (PTI) Union minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari fainted on stage Saturday evening during an election rally near Shirdi in Maharashtra.

He soon recovered and later walked to his car.

Gadkari was campaigning at Rahata near here for Shiv Sena candidate from Shirdi Lok Sabha seat Sadashiv Lokhande.

After finishing his speech, Gadkari fainted while walking back to his seat on the stage.

Indian Polls: Campaigning for Phase-4 of LS polls ends

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) Campaigning for the fourth phase of polling scheduled for April 29 in 72 parliamentary constituencies across nine states ended Saturday after days of hectic canvassing as leaders made energetic efforts to garner votes.

Polling will be held in 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, six each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, five in Bihar, three in Jharkhand and a part of the Anantnag constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian Polls: BJP lodges complaints with EC against Kejriwal

New Delhi, April 27 (PTI) The BJP Saturday lodged complaints with the Election Commission against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for "misguiding" voters through FM radio advertisement, and distorting party chief Amit Shah's statement on illegal infiltrators.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kaoor in a complaint letter to the Election Commission objected the content of the AAP's FM radio advertisement.

Indian Polls: Nine candidates withdraw nominations in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) A total of 164 candidates are in the fray across seven constituencies in the national capital after withdrawal of nominations by nine contestants, the Delhi Electoral Office said Friday.

The New Delhi constituency has 27 candidates, the highest in the city, while the North West seat has the least 11 contenders.

Friday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

Indian Polls: Convassing comes to an end in Kanpur today

Kanpur: Saturday becomes the last day for canvassing in Kanpur and Akbarpur Lok Sabha constituencies. After 5 pm it will be completely ended and if any political party is found infringing the code of conduct a report will be filed against the person or party concerned. 

Strict vigil on the part of the govrnment agencies like video surveillance team, flying squad team and static surveillance team will be kept over the political parties on the concluding day. 

Indian Polls: Good days will come, once Modi leaves: Gehlot

Jaipur, Apr 25 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Thursday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, using the BJP's 2014 poll slogan and saying 'acche din' (good days) will come when Modi leaves.

Modi ji jayenge, aache din aayenge,' (Good days will come, once Modi leaves)," Gehlot mocked the prime minister.

Indian Polls: Mamata accuses Modi of buying votes with black money

Serampore (WB), Apr 24 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of converting huge black money into white through demonitisation and spending it to purchase votes.

She alleged that the saffron party is importing guns and goons to ensure votes in its favour and said that such a situation will not be allowed to develop in Bengal.
