New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Saturday demanded that the accused in the Unnao case be hanged within a month.

"I appeal to the UP government and the Centre to fast track this case and ensure that the perpetrators are hanged within a month," said Maliwal, who begun an indefinite hunger strike on December 3 to press her demand that rapists be hanged within six months of their conviction.

New Delhi, Dec 9 (PTI) The Railways has provided free WiFi at 5,500 stations across the country, the national transporter's digital arm RailTel said on Friday.

Jharkhand's Mahuamilan station, which comes under the East Central Railway zone, has become the 5,500th station to get the facility, it said.

Sikar, Dec 6 (PTI) A local court on Friday awarded life sentence to a man for raping a four-year-old girl in Rajasthan's Sikar district.

Hansraj Balai, 25, was awarded life imprisonment till death by the POCSO court, public prosecutor Yashpal Singh said.

Amethi (UP), Dec 6 (PTI) Some people defaced a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on his 64th death anniversary here, police said on Friday.

The statue installed at Ambedkar Park in Janta Nagar of Bhadar block under the Amethi assembly segment was found defaced on Friday morning.

Circle Officer Piyush Kant Rai told PTI that on the complaint of the president of Ambedkar Kalyan Samiti, a case was lodged under Section 295 of the IPC against unknown persons.

As the news spread, followers of the Dalit icon rushed to the spot and staged a dharna.

Jalna, Dec 6 (PTI) Chief executive officer of the Central Haj Committee Maqsood Ahmed Khan said here on Friday that the committee has extended the last date for filling online application for Haj to December 17.

The committee started receiving applications for the pilgrimage from October 10 in fully online mode, he said.

"In view of representations from several quarters and state committees, the date has been extended," Khan told PTI.

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 7 (PTI) Three girls have been reported missing to police by their parents in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh in the past three weeks, according to police.

The parents of a 14-year-old girl, missing since Nov 14, have alleged that their daughter has been abducted by a youth in Kahikhedi village in Purkazi area, they said.

Police have booked the youth and officials are trying to locate the girl.

Unnao (UP), Dec 7 (PTI) A rape attempt was made on a three-year-old girl in a village under Makhi police station area in Unnao, police said Saturday.

The minor was playing near her house on Friday when a youth of a neighbouring village tried to rape her in an adjoining agriculture field but the locals, who rushed on hearing her cries for help, managed to save her, SHO Makhi Raj Bahadur said.

The locals informed the police and a case has been registered, the SHO said, adding that the girl has been sent for medical examination.

Lucknow, Dec 7 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on a visit to the Uttar Pradesh capital, Saturday rushed to Unnao to meet the family of the rape victim who succumbed to severe burns in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

The Congress general secretary has left for Unnao to meet the family and extend condolences to them, Congress sources said.

Koraput (Odisha), Dec 7 (PTI) A class VII student of a state-run residential school in Odisha's Koraput district was allegedly raped for months by the headmistress' husband, who has been arrested after the tribal girl was found to be three-month pregnant, police said on Saturday.

The 60-year-old man who used to stay with his wife at the staff quarters of the school, meant for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes students, was arrested on Friday.
