India: CRPF jawan killed in Naxal encounter in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) A CRPF jawan was killed in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, officials said here.

The encounter took place in the Tonguda-Pamed area of Bijapur district at about 4 am, they said.

The jawan belonged to the 151st battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and this team along with the commando unit of the force, CoBRA, and the state police was out for an operation in the jungles, the officials said.

IndiaL BJP not to stake claim in Maha on Thursday: Mungantiwar

Mumbai, Nov 7 (PTI) Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said his party would not stake claim on Thursday to form government in the state.

Ahead of the BJP delegation's meeting with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday, Mungantiwar told reporters here that the BJP was not in favour of forming a minority government in the state.

He also dubbed as "unfair" the talks that Shiv Sena MLAs may cross sides, amid the stalemate over government formation in the state.

Heavy snowfall across Kashmir, highway closed

Srinagar, Nov 7 (PTI) Heavy snowfall across Kashmir on Thursday cut off the valley from the rest of the country as the arterial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic while all flights to and fro Srinagar airport were cancelled, officials said here.

An official of the traffic department told PTI that roads which connect the summer capital with far-flung areas like Gurez, Macchil, Keran and Tangdhar have also been closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Over 2000 vehicles are stranded on the highway due to the closure.

India: SC asks J&K HC Juvenile Justice Committee to examine detention of minors

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the four member juvenile justice committee of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to examine afresh allegations of detention of minors by security forces in the state after abrogation of provisions of Article 370.

A bench headed by Justice N V Ramana asked the committee to place its report as expeditiously as possible and posted the hearing for December 3.

India: Withdrawal limit for PMC bank depositors raised to Rs 50,000

Mumbai, Nov 5 (PTI) In further relief to customers of scam-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank, the Reserve Bank on Tuesday enhanced the withdrawal limit to Rs 50,000 per account from Rs 40,000 per account.

This is the fourth time the regulator has increased the withdrawal limit since it clamped down on PMC Bank on September 23, capping withdrawals at Rs 1,000 per customer, which led to a lot of distress and criticism. Last month the limit was enhanced to Rs 40,000 per account.

India: Man killed after bike hits dead cow on Jabalpur highway

Nagpur, Nov 5 (PTI) A 60-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his two-wheeler hit a dead cow lying on Nagpur- Jabalpur Highway near Khapri here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 6 pm on Monday when Bhanudas Ramrao Jangle, a resident of Sudarshan Nagar, was riding towards Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport (MIHAN) in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, an official said.

India: Rapist policeman arrested

Baripada (Odisha), Nov 5 (PTI) An assistant sub- inspector (ASI) of police who allegedly molested a sleeping woman by entering her house at night in May last year was arrested on Tuesday.

The victim had attempted self-immolation in front of the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in September 2018 claiming that no action was taken against the accused policeman.

Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police PS Parashattamdas said the ASI was arrested.

India: Man kills married sister's lover in Maha

Thane, Nov 5 (PTI) A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in Thane in Maharashtra for allegedly killing a peon who was in relationship with his married sister, police said.

The accused Ganesh Reddy, who works in a pest control firm, stabbed Akash More (30), who worked as a peon with a bank, outside his house in Padwal Nagar locality, an officer said.
