India: Oxygenated 100-bed COVID care facility set up at Haj House in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 8 (PTI) An oxygenated 100-bedded COVID care facility has been set up at the Haj House in Srinagar, an official spokesman said on Saturday.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Srinagar set up the facility in Bemina area of the city in the wake of rising coronavirus cases.

The spokesman said the facility came up at the Haj House in just a week's time.

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) A new novel provides an insider's view of everyday life and emotions in Kashmir Valley through a number of love stories.

"Life in the Clock Tower Valley" is the debut book of Press Trust of India (PTI) journalist Shakoor Rather. Published by Speaking Tiger, it talks about Kashmir's pristine past, its grievous present and always-uncertain future.

It also includes historical and political information about Kashmir as well as environmental issues that are seldom talked about.

India: Corona curfew in J-K extended till May 17

Jammu, May 9 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir Administration on Sunday extended till May 17 the curfew imposed across the union territory to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The curfew was earlier scheduled to end on Monday.

The curfew will be strict except for a few essential services, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) said.

India: Ex-J&K governor Jagmohan dies

Jammu, May 4 (PTI) Various political parties, including the Congress and the BJP, paid rich tributes to former Jammu and Kashmir governor Jagmohan on Tuesday and remembered his contributions for the people of the Union Territory.

Former Union minister Jagmohan, whose tough measures as an administrator in various roles won him many admirers but also drew criticism from some quarters, passed away following a spell of illness on Monday.

India: Retiring doctors to get extension till Dec 31: J&K govt

Jammu, May 3 (PTI) Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday announced to extended till December 31 the services of all doctors who are due to retire on or before November 30, officials said.

This announcement was made by Financial Commissioner (Health and Medical Education) Atal Dulloo tonight.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has extended the service of all doctors, faculty and consultants of SKIMS, GMCs and Health department who are retiring on or before 30th November 2021 till 31st December, Dulloo said.

India: LG directs for setting up COVID management teams in J&K

Jammu, May 3 (PTI) In order to strengthen the coronavirus control efforts across Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha called for the setting up of COVID management teams at the district level on Monday.

He also suggested roping in religious leaders and elected representatives for raising awareness among people regarding the advisories and standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Union health ministry and the health department of the Union Territory to curb the spread of the viral disease.

India: 9 more districts in J&K under corona curfew

Jammu, Apr 30 (PTI) Nine more districts in Jammu and Kashmir came under complete lockdown from Friday evening, while corona curfew in 11 districts entered the second day in view of the alarming surge in coronavirus cases, officials said.

Jammu and Kashmir on Friday recorded its biggest single-day spike of 3,532 COVID-19 cases and 30 deaths.

The curfew in Bandipora, Kupwara, Shopian, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts came into effect at 7 pm and would remain in force till 7 am on May 3, they said.

India: No medical-oxygen shortage in J&K: official

Srinagar, Apr 29 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the highest number of vaccine doses in the country and there is no shortage of medical oxygen, the adviser to the lieutenant governor claimed on Thursday.

Addressing a hurriedly-convened press conference, Baseer Ahmad Khan said there was no shortage of medical oxygen or drugs like remdesivir in the Union territory and people should not resort to scaremongering on these counts.

India: Prohibitory orders in Srinagar as COVID-19 cases soar

Srinagar, Apr 27 (PTI) The Srinagar authorities on Tuesday announced barring assembly of five or more people under Section 144 of the CrPC in view of a massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the city.

"In view of massive spurt in positive cases in District Sringar & after due deliberations, Section 144 CrPC is imposed hereby within the municipal limits of the district to contain further spread of the epidemic. Assembly of five or more persons is banned with immediate effect," Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Aijaz Asad said on Twitter.

India: Omar Abdullah tests negative for COVID-19

Srinagar, Apr 27 (PTI) National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah tested negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday -- 18 days after first testing positive for the virus.

Taking to Twitter, the former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir said he was lucky that he had no symptoms except for a blocked nose.
