Jammu, Apr 22 (PTI) The Jammu district administration on Thursday declared five areas micro-containment zones (MCZs) and made it mandatory for residents to get themselves tested for COVID-19, officials said.

Action, including the filing of an FIR, will be taken against anyone refusing to undergo the test, they said.

Jammu, Apr 18 (PTI) 'Awaam Ki Awaaz', a radio programme in Jammu and Kashmir aimed at seeking public feedback to make the process of governance interactive, participatory and people-centric, went on the air on Sunday, an official spokesperson said.

The 30-minute programme, to be aired every third Sunday of the month, is an initiative of Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.

Jammu, Apr 18 (PTI) An Army personnel allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle inside a camp in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

Sepoy Hanuman Choudhary, who was on sentry duty, shot himself at his camp in Ukhral area around midnight, a police official said.

The body has been sent to a local hospital for postmortem.

Police have started inquest proceedings, the official said, adding the motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately.

Srinagar, Apr 11 (PTI) National Conference (NC) on Monday questioned the latest CMIE data showing a drastic decrease in the unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it is a mockery of the plight of lakhs of unemployed youth.

The figures, it goes without saying, claiming spur in job creation are based on defective data, and erroneous tabulation, but it cannot change the basic facts about widespread unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said in a statement.

11 Apr 2021; MEMO: The government of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir will withdraw cases filed against a group of people from Bangladesh, including members of the Rohingya community, so that they can be deported, local media reported on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

It is not clear how many of the group are Rohingya refugees, hundreds of whom have been staying in Jammu since 2007.

Anantnag, 11 April  2021: 4 Kashmiris have been killed on Sunday by Indian security forces in Shopian and Anantnag district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Police has claimed that the slain separatists were responsible for the killing of Havaldar Mohammad Saleem AKhoon outside his residence at Goriwan in Bijbehara area on Friday.

Srinagar, Apr 8 (PTI) All travellers coming to Kashmir by road shall undergo coronavirus tests in Kulgam district, an official said on Thursday.

Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Aijaz Asad chaired a meeting to review the coronavirus situation, a spokesperson said.

Asad said the testing for travellers coming by road shall be started in Lower Munda area in a couple of days as this would help in containing the spread of virus in the Valley.

Jammu, Apr 3 (PTI) A fake currency racket was busted here on Saturday with the arrest of four people including the main accused along with counterfeit currency, police said.

The existence of the racket came to light after a shopkeeper lodged a complaint at the Talab Tillo police post, claiming that two motorcycle borne youth came to his shop and purchased a cigarette packet against a fake note of Rs 500, a police official said.

Srinagar, Mar 31 (PTI) The PDP on Wednesday welcomed the "resumption" of trade relations between India and Pakistan, saying broadening the scope of engagement was pivotal for the restoration of durable peace in the subcontinent.

The reaction from the party came after Pakistan said it will buy sugar and cotton from India, a decision that will lead to a partial revival of bilateral trade relations which were suspended after the August 5, 2019 decision of India to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate it into union territories.

Srinagar, Mar 30 (PTI) The passport application of Gulshan Nazir, wife of former Union home minister and two-time Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, has been rejected following an adverse police report.

According to a letter sent to Nazir, who is the mother of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Regional Passport office informed her that the Jammu and Kashmir Police's CID department has not cleared her passport application under section 6 (2) (c) of the Passports Act.
