India: Matrimonial relationships in Kerala influenced by 'use & throw' consumer culture: High Court

Kochi, Sep 1 (PTI) Matrimonial relationships in Kerala appear to have been influenced by consumer culture of 'use and throw' which is evident from rise in live-in relationships and the prevailing trend to opt for divorce on flimsy or selfish grounds, the High Court here observed recently.

The High Court further observed that the younger generation apparently views marriage as an evil to be avoided for enjoying a free life without any liabilities or obligations.

India launches its indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier

Kochi, Sep 2 (PTI) India launched its maiden indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on Friday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioning the warship that put India into a select league of countries with domestic capability to develop such large vessels.

Modi, who also unveiled a new Naval Ensign inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj said the country has taken off a "burden of slavery."

India: Kerala local bodies to have 'Suchitwa (sanitation) grading'

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 30 (PTI) The Local Self Government Department (LSGD) institutions in Kerala will soon be graded based on their operational excellence in the areas of sanitation and waste management.

State Minister for LSGD and Excise, M V Govindan said a detailed guideline in this regard has been issued.

The factors prescribed by the government for scientific implementation of solid waste management would be considered for the grading of each institution, he said in a statement on Saturday.

India: Kerala govt mulls setting up commission for elderly

Kochi, Jul 30 (PTI) Kerala, which has around 42 lakh senior citizens, may soon have an exclusive commission to deal with the issues of the elderly people on the model of women, youth and child rights' panels.

The Left government in the state is mulling setting up a panel to address the issues and concerns of the elderly in view of increasing complaints of atrocities and harassment against senior citizens, Minister for Social Justice and Higher Education, R Bindhu said.

India: Bombs hurled at RSS office in Kerala

Kannur (Ker), Jul 12 (PTI) Bombs were hurled at a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Payyannur area of this northern district of Kerala on Tuesday with the party accusing CPI(M) of carrying out the attack.

The incident occurred around 1.00 AM, police said.

The number of attackers is not yet known and CCTV footage of the area was being examined to ascertain the same, they said.

An FIR under relevant provisions of the Explosives Act has been registered and the investigation was going on to trace the culprits, they added.

India: Kerala sentences husband to 10 yrs in jail for dowry death

Kollam (Ker), May 24 (PTI) A court in Kerala on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in jail the husband of Vismaya, an Ayurveda medical student who hanged herself at her marital home in June last year, for dowry death.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Sujith K N also sentenced S Kiran Kumar to six years and two years imprisonment for the offences of abetment to suicide and dowry harassment under the IPC, Special Public Prosecutor G Mohanraj told reporters.

India needs to revive its 'Sanatan dharma' principles: AM Khan

Shahjahanpur (UP), May 7 (PTI) Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday emphasised the need to revive India's old culture and restore 'Sanatan dharma' principles by spreading proper education in the country.

Governor Khan made remarks while inaugurating a school in Kalan town of the district.

"Everyone has to work towards reviving the old culture of the country, not because we have to go back but because we have to bring back the 'Sanatan' principles and this is not possible without education," Governor Khan said.

India: Three RSS workers held for Subair murder case in Kerala

Palakkad, May 6 (PTI) The Kerala Police on Friday arrested three RSS workers in connection with the murder case of Subair, a Popular Front of India (PFI) activist at Elappully near here last month.

Police said they have arrested Suchithran, Gireesh and Jineesh from the district itself.

Subair was murdered allegedly by RSS workers on April 15, five months after a local sangh parivar leader S Sanjith was murdered in the same area allegedly by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) activists.

India: Kerala CM attacks Centre over Delhi demolition drive

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 22 (PTI) Targeting the BJP-led Union government at the Centre over the demolition drive in Delhi, veteran Marxist leader and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked whether India's 101st rank in the recent Global Hunger Index can be "erased with bulldozers?"

The CM was referring to the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021, released last October, which placed the country in an alarming 101st position.
