India: Man gets 40 years in jail for raping minor girl in Gondia

Gondia, Apr 20 (PTI) A court in Gondia in Maharashtra on Thursday sentenced a man to 40 years in jail for raping a minor girl in November 2018.

Mukesh Shende (28) had lured the 4-and-half-year-old girl to an isolated spot under Salekasa police station limits and raped her, an official said.

Indian Rupee falls 13 paise to close at 82.12 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 13 paise to close at 82.12 (provisional) against the US currency on Tuesday as dollar demand from importers weighed on investor sentiments.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.96 against the dollar, and finally ended the day at 82.12 (provisional), 13 paise lower from its previous close.

During the day, the rupee witnessed a high of 81.96 and a low of 82.15 against the greenback.

Indian Rupee hits record low of 83.06 against US dollar

Mumbai, Oct 20 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 6 paise to a record low of 83.06 against the US dollar in opening trade on Thursday due to a stronger greenback overseas and unrelenting foreign fund outflows.

Besides, a sell-off in domestic equities and risk-averse sentiments weighed on the local unit, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weak at 83.05 against the dollar, then slipped further to quote 83.06, a fall of 6 paise over its previous close. The local currency also hit a high of 83.07 in early deals.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the local currency opened weak at 81.65 against the dollar, then lost further ground to quote at 81.78, registering a loss of 38 paise over its previous close.

India: Two girls burnt alive by father die in hospital in Maha

Thane, Oct 3 (PTI) Two girls, who were allegedly burnt alive by their father, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Maharashtra's Thane district on Monday, police said.

Sameera Shantaram Patil (14) and her sister Samiksha (11) suffered 91 per cent burns in a fire at their house in Bopar area of Dombivili town on Saturday morning. Their mother Preeti (35) died of burn wounds on Sunday, an official said.
