Palestinian official threatens 'open conflict' with Israel

13 Feb 2022; MEMO: The head of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Rawhi Fattouh, has threatened an "open conflict" with Israel, amid a deadlock in peace talks between Tel Aviv and the Palestinians.

Speaking on state television late Saturday, Fattouh said the international community has until September to respond to Palestinian demands and hold an international conference for the Middle East peacemaking.

Palestine: UAE-Financed Field Hospital For COVID-19 Patients Opens In Gaza

GAZA, Feb 13 (NNN-WAFA) – A new field hospital, financed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), treating COVID-19 patients, was inaugurated yesterday, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Yousef Abu al-Reesh, the undersecretary of the Hamas-controlled health authority in Gaza, told reporters that, the hospital was named after Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the UAE.

165 Palestinians Injured In Clashes With Israeli Soldiers In West Bank: Medics

RAMALLAH, Feb 12 (NNN-WAFA) – At least 165 Palestinian protesters were injured yesterday, during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank, said medics and eyewitnesses.

Palestinian eyewitnesses said, fierce clashes broke out near the villages of Beita, Beit Dajan, Burqin, and Huwara, and south and east of Nablus city, respectively, and near the village of Kafr Qaddum, east of Qaqilya city.

Palestinian Central Council To Terminate Commitment To All Agreements With Israel

RAMALLAH, Feb 10 (NNN-WAFA) – The Palestinian Central Council (PCC), yesterday, decided to terminate commitment of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), to all agreements signed with Israel.

The announcement was made at the end of the three-day PCC meetings, held in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Israel approves plan to link settlements in occupied East Jerusalem

08 Feb 2022; MEMO: Israeli authorities approved one billion shekels ($0.31 billion) to fund several major projects that will link all illegal Jewish-only settlements in occupied East Jerusalem to the western part of the city, Arab48 reported today.

According to Israel's Jerusalem Municipality financial committee, the authorities plan to advance the infrastructure, high roads and the expansion of the light railway to connect the settlements in East Jerusalem with the western neighbourhoods of the city.

PA detained 55 Palestinians in West Bank on political grounds

08 Feb 2022; MEMO: The Palestinian Authority (PA) detained 55 Palestinians across occupied West Bank in January on political grounds, Lawyers for Justice reported yesterday.

In a statement reported by the Safa news agency, Lawyers for Justice stated that the PA detained 31 Palestinians from the cities of Nablus, Ramallah and Jenin. The others were from the remaining areas of the occupied Palestinian territory.

Two potential successors to Palestinian President named to top posts

07 Feb 2022; MEMO: Two potential successors to 86-year-old Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, were named on Monday to top posts in the Palestine Liberation Organisation at a meeting boycotted by his Islamist rivals, Reuters reports.

Official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, said the PLO's 141-member Central Council appointed Hussein Al-Sheikh, 61, an Abbas confidante, who serves as key liaison with Israel and the United States, to the PLO's Executive Committee.

Palestine: PLO Central Council Holds General Assembly Meeting

RAMALLAH/GAZA, Feb 7 (NNN-WAFA) – A two-day general assembly meeting of the central council of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), kicked off last night, in the West Bank city of Ramallah, in the presence of Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.

At the presidential headquarters in the city, Abbas delivered a speech at the meeting of the Palestinian Central Council (PCC), the second-highest decision-making body in the PLO, noting that, the PCC would consider all options regarding relationship with Israel.

Palestinians protest against prices hikes, security chaos in West Bank

07 Feb 2022; MEMO: Palestinians in the occupied West Bank cities of Hebron and Bethlehem staged protests against prices hikes and security chaos, calling for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to assume its responsibility towards them.

Truck and taxi drivers took part in the protests, which were staged in the centres of both cities. The drivers and other protesters chanted: "No to price hikes… We want to live."
