Indian PM says USD 82 billion being invested in ports

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) India will invest USD 82 billion in port projects by 2035, raise share of clean renewable energy source in maritime sector, develop waterways and boost tourism around lighthouses as part of port-led development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday

Speaking at the Maritime India Summit, he invited global investors to invest in Indian ports, shipyards and waterways

Iran insists U.S. lift sanctions first to revive nuclear deal talks

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran said on Monday the United States should lift sanctions first if it wants to hold talks with Tehran to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers that former President Donald Trump abandoned.

President Joe Biden has said Washington is ready for talks about both nations resuming compliance with the pact, under which Tehran secured an easing of sanctions by limiting its nuclear work. But each side wants the other to move first.

The West fears Iran wants to build nuclear weapons, while Tehran says that has never been its goal.

Sudan imposes new controls over gold trade

01 Mar 2021; MEMO: Sudanese yesterday announced the adoption of a new plan to reform its economy based on imposing controls over smuggling gold, the New Khaleej reported.

The plan is based on five pillars, foremost of which is imposing control over gold through the Central Bank which would purchase it for the same prices it is sold in international markets.

India: Kanpur metro coaches to be manufactured in Gujarat

After thorough analysis its design has been finalised. Its design papers have been despatched to the RDSO for approval.

It will also be fitted with communication- based train  control (CBTC) system.  

Turkey, Iraq to open a new border crossing

26 Feb 2021; MEMO: Turkey and Iraq are planning to open a new border crossing, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Adil Karaismailoglu, announced yesterday.

"The next phase will witness meetings between the public and private infrastructure companies in the two countries," Karaismailoglu said during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Nasser Hussein Bandar. He added that the agreement aims to aid "enhancing the prosperity and quality of life of the Iraqi people."

India: Govt has no business to be in business: Modi

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the government has no business to be in business and his administration is committed to privatising all PSUs barring the bare minimum in four strategic sectors.

"It is government's duty to support enterprises and businesses. But it is not essential that it should own and run enterprises," he said.
