Malaysia: Public Bank posts RM5.51 billion net profit for FY19

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Public Bank Bhd’s net profit saw a slight ease to RM5.51 billion for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2019 (FY19) from RM5.59 billion recorded in the previous year.

Revenue, however, rose to RM22.45 billion from RM22.04 billion previously.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, founder and chairman emeritus Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow said 2019 was a year with strong headwinds and increased challenges as economic growth across developed and emerging countries had further moderated.

U.S. Voters Highly Concerned About Growing National Debt

WASHINGTON, Feb 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – American voters are highly concerned about the rise in national debt, as the 2020 presidential campaign gets underway, according to a survey released by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

About 72 percent of Americans say, their concern about national debt increased over the past few years, and 84 percent want the president and Congress to spend more time addressing the issue, the survey showed.

Laos Sees Increasing Income From Rice Export To China

VIENTIANE, Feb 26 (NNN-KPL) – Laos earned more from the sale of rice to China in the past few years due to trade preference arrangements between the two countries.

In 2017, the value of rice sold to China was 5.6 million U.S. dollars. This figure increased to 7.25 million U.S. dollars in 2018, and to 14.54 million U.S. dollars in 2019, according to the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Bernie Sanders slams Trump for selling weapons to India

Washington, Feb 25 (PTI) Democratic presidential front-runner Senator Bernie Sanders on Monday slammed President Donald Trump for selling weapons to India, saying that the US should instead partner with New Delhi to fight climate change to save the planet.

Sanders, who has won the Nevada and New Hampshire primaries and tied in Iowa, made the comments after Trump, who is on a two-day visit to India, on Monday announced that the US will sign defence trade deals worth USD 3 billion with India.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) US President Donald Trump on Tuesday promised to reduce more regulations in his country as he looked for overseas investment to boost American economy.

Speaking at a meeting with CEOs, he said a trade deal with India is in the works, but did not share any details.

Kolkata, Feb 25 (PTI) The deadly coronavirus outbreak is forcing Chinese manufacturer CRRC Dalian to look at other avenues to get its rake for the Kolkata Metro Railway tested, an official said here on Tuesday.

A team of Chinese engineers was supposed to come to the city for conducting Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) tests of the first rake that arrived in March last year but it has now become uncertain, the official said.
