Israeli helicopter strikes on central Gaza targets

GAZA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli army helicopter attacked early on Saturday morning a military facility that belongs to Islamic Hamas movement's military wing in central Gaza Strip, no injuries reported, medics and security officials said.

Security officials said that the Israeli airstrike on central Gaza Strip was carried out shortly after Gaza militants fired a rocket into southern Israel.

No one claimed responsibility for the rocket attack and no injuries or damages were caused, according to Israeli media reports.

1984 Delhi riots case: Sajjan Kumar likely to surrender before court on Dec 31

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) Former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar is likely to surrender before a court here on December 31 to serve the life imprisonment awarded to him by the Delhi High Court in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

"We will comply with the high court's judgment," his counsel Anil Kumar Sharma told PTI.

The counsel said Kumar's appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the high court verdict is not likely to be taken up for hearing before December 31.

India: Bulandshahar violence: Cong demands judicial probe

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the probe into killing of a policeman during mob violence in Bulandshahr, saying over 25 days have passed, but no concrete action has been taken, and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Mob violence broke out near Chingrawathi police post on December 3 after cattle carcasses were found strewn in a field near Mahaw village. Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and 20-year-old Sumit Kumar were shot dead as the mob attacked police.

4 Kasmiris killed by Indian security forces

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Hanjan area Saturday morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, an Army official said

The search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras opened fire at the search party, who retaliated.

Rescue boat with 300 migrants reaches Spain

28 Dec 2018; DW: Charity organization Proactiva Open Arms said Spain was the only country to allow its vessel a port to dock. Pregnant women, children and babies were among the group of migrants rescued off the coast of Libya.

The Spanish rescue boat Open Arms arrived on Friday morning in a port near the city of Algeciras, in southern Spain. Aboard the vessel were 310 migrants who were rescued by the organization off the coast of Libya.

Israeli strike on Syria threatened civilian flights

Moscow, Dec 27 (AP) The Russian military on Wednesday criticized an alleged Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital, saying it has endangered civilian flights.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that six Israeli F-16 jets launched a "provocative" raid at the moment when two civilian airliners were preparing to land in Damascus and Beirut, creating a "direct threat" to the aircraft.

India: Women groups raise 10 concerns in Triple Talaq Bill

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) A group of 40 women rights activists has opposed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, in its present form, raising concerns over 10 points in the Bill which was passed by the Lok Sabha Thursday.

In a statement, they urged the government to withdraw the Bill from consideration in the Rajya Sabha, and review the fundamental flaws pending broad-based community consultations.

India: Woman burnt for dowry in Greater Noida

Noida (UP), Dec 27 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman received severe burn injuries after she was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws over dowry in Greater Noida, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday at Kalupura village under Rabupura police station limits, a police official said.

"A complaint was made by the woman's brother, who has alleged that her in-laws tried to kill her for dowry," the official said.
