BRUSSELS, October 11. /TASS/: Russia’s victory in the conflict in Ukraine would be a defeat for NATO, the alliance must not allow such an outcome, the organization’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday at a press conference ahead of the meetings of NATO Defence Ministers on October 12-13 in Brussels.

European Parliament holds debate on humanitarian situation after devastating floods in Pakistan

BRUSSELS, Oct 6 (APP: The European Parliament during its plenary sessions in Strasbourg held a debate, regarding the humanitarian situation following the climate induced devastating floods in Pakistan.  

The debate, held on Wednesday evening, was aimed at discussing the EU response to the situation in Pakistan and how to mitigate the extreme weather consequences of the climate induced crisis, a press release issued by Pakistan Embassy in Brussels on Thursday said.

European Union adopts eighth package of sanctions against Russia, including oil price cap

BRUSSELS, October 6. /TASS/: The European Union has adopted the eighth package of economic and individual sanctions against Moscow over the accession of four constituent entities to the Russian Federation, including the price cap on Russian oil and import bans worth 7 bln euro, the EU Council said in a statement on Thursday.

"The agreed package includes a series of biting measures intended to reinforce pressure on the Russian government and economy, weaken Russia's military capabilities," the statement said.

EU ministers agree to include energy self-sufficiency in recovery plans

BRUSSELS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The ministers of finance and economic affairs of the European Union (EU) member states, meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday, agreed to include energy self-sufficiency in their national recovery and resilience plans.

REPowerEU, a plan proposed by the European Commission in May, aims at strengthening the Union's strategic autonomy by diversifying energy supplies, thus weaning the bloc off its dependency on Russian fossil fuels. It also aims to boost energy saving and the production of clean energy.

Apple forced to change charger in Europe as EU approves overhaul

BRUSSELS, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O) will have to change the charger for its iPhones in the European Union from autumn 2024 to comply with new rules introducing a single charging port for most electronic devices.

The reform passed by an overwhelming majority in the European Parliament on Tuesday, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, potentially strengthens the EU's role as a global standard-setter on telephone technology. The vote confirmed an earlier agreement among EU institutions. 

EU-Israel talks restart after decade amid outcry from rights groups

EU edges towards more sanctions on Russia

BRUSSELS, Sept 30 (Reuters) - European Union countries on Friday edged towards agreeing what would be the bloc's eighth round of sanctions against Russia for waging war against Ukraine, diplomatic sources told Reuters.

The EU executive earlier this week recommended that the bloc imposes more trade curbs and individual blacklistings, and moves towards - rather than adopting straightaway - a price cap for Russian sea-borne oil deliveries to third countries, mostly insured by European companies.

Belgium: NATO calls Nord Stream leaks acts of sabotage

BRUSSELS, Sept 28 (Reuters) - NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday attributed the leaks on the Nord Stream pipelines to acts of sabotage and said he had discussed the protection of critical infrastructure in NATO countries with the Danish defence minister.

"Discussed the sabotage on the NorthStream pipelines with Defence Minister Morten Bødskov," he said on Twitter.

"We addressed the protection of critical infrastructure in NATO countries."

EU foreign policy chief says Nord Stream pipeline leaks "not a coincidence"

BRUSSELS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The European Union's (EU) chief diplomat Josep Borrell on Wednesday expressed his concerns over three gas pipeline leaks detected in the Baltic Sea on Russian natural gas pipelines, adding that they were most probably the result of sabotage.

EU executive proposes 8th package of 'biting sanctions' against Russia

BRUSSELS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Wednesday proposed a new package of "biting sanctions" against Russia, aimed at making the Kremlin "pay" for escalating the conflict in Ukraine.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a press briefing here that the package comes after the "sham referenda in the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia."
