Delhi's air quality on brink of turning severe: Authorities

New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was on the brink of turning severe on Thursday due to stubble burning in the adjoining regions and unfavorable meteorological conditions, authorities said.

The overall air quality index of Delhi was recorded at 392, which falls in the 'very poor' category and is just eight points from turning severe.

Another CBI officer lodges petition against Special Director Rakesh Asthana

CBI Additional SP SS Guram lodged petition with Delhi HC against CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana.

According to Punjab Kesary, Guram has accused Asthana of misleading the court.

Guram was caught between Asthana – Alok Verma tussle , and has been transferred to Jabalpur.

Indian court seeks pricing of Rafale jet deal with France

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s top court on Wednesday ordered the government to provide pricing details of 36 Rafale fighter jets it is buying from France.

The court said the government must bring details of the decision-making process of the deal into the public domain, except those that are confidential and have strategic importance. The court said those can be provided in a “sealed cover” within 10 days.

Sania Mirza and Shoib Malik blessed with baby boy

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistan all-rounder Shoib Malik were blessed with their first child, a baby boy, on Tuesday.

"Excited to announce: It's a boy, and my girl is doing great and keeping strong as usual #Alhumdulilah. Thank you for the wishes and Duas, we are humbled #BabyMirzaMalik," Malik wrote on Twitter.

The couple have named the baby boy Izhaan, which means God's gift in Urdu.

Earlier this year the six-time Grand Slam winner had announced the child will have Mirza Malik as surname and not just Malik.

India, US talks ongoing to resolve trade issues

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has said India and the US have exchanged offers for a possible trade deal with a view to resolving issues related to bilateral commerce.

"The negotiations are ongoing. Of course, at this stage they have given an offer and we have also given a counter-offer and we are working on it," he said at an event here Saturday.

The statement assumes significance as India has deferred a notification for hiking import duties on as many as 29 US products.

Indian Govt changes stand, NRIs can file RTI applications now

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) can file RTI applications to seek governance-related information, the government has said, correcting its earlier stand.

In response to a query in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh had on August 8, 2018 said NRIs were not eligible to file applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Ayodhya dispute: SC likely to hear pleas against HC verdict on Monday

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) The Supreme Court is likely to hear Monday a batch of pleas challenging the Allahabad High Court's 2010 verdict by which the disputed land on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid area in Ayodhya was divided into three parts.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K M Joseph would hear the appeals filed in the matter.

No pressure on India to buy F-16 fighter jets from US: Envoy

Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) The United States is not going to put pressure on India to buy F-16 fighter jets or any other defence system, a senior US diplomat has said here.

United States Consul General in Mumbai Edgard Kagan said India has purchased more than USD 15 billion worth of American defence materials and the US is "very proud" of the expanding defence ties between the two countries.
