Dengue cases rise to 1,875 in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) Nearly 280 fresh cases of dengue have been reported over the last one week in the national capital, taking the total number of people diagnosed with the vector-borne disease this season to 1,875, a municipal report released Monday said.

According to the report, there has been one death due to dengue this year till November 10.

At least 1,114 cases were reported in October only.

Also, 450 cases of malaria and 141 of chikungunya have been reported this season till November 10 the report said.

More than 600 Mohalla Clinics to come up in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) The Delhi government will come up with over 600 Mohalla Clinics, with close to half of it to be opened at schools run by it, an official source said.

In a review meeting on the Mohalla Clinic project on Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed the officials to ensure adequate availability of medicines and staff in the state-run clinics and hospitals, the government source said.

Over 600 vehicles denied entry into Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI) Over 600 vehicles were denied entry into the national capital on Sunday, a day after the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) extended the ban on entry of trucks till November 12 due to high pollution levels in Delhi.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar, 1,283 vehicles were checked and 609 vehicles were denied entry.

Around 734 vehicles carrying essential goods were allowed inside the national capital from 11 pm on November 10 till 5 am on November 11, he said.

10-yr-old girl raped in east Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a family friend in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar, police said Saturday.

The incident happened on Friday night.

The accused was known to the girl's family and took her with him for an outing on Friday and then raped her, police said.

The victim then narrated the ordeal to her parents who approached police and a case was registered in the matter.

The accused, who worked as a labourer at a shop, was arrested, said a senior police officer.

Wipro's Appirio expands operations in Portugal

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) IT firm Wipro Friday said its acquired entity, Appirio, has set up a new office in Porto, Portugal to expand its European operations and meet the growing business requirements of the region.

Appirio -- a global services company that helps clients create next-generation worker and customer experiences using cloud technologies -- has offices in Amsterdam, Dublin, London, Paris and Stockholm presently.

50 lakh kg of crackers burnt in Delhi this year

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) Close to 50 lakh kilogrammes of firecrackers were burst in Delhi on Diwali despite a Supreme Court directive limiting the bursting of crackers to only two hours, according to a report by a research group.

That is the same amount of firecrackers burst last year.

It equates to 1,50,000 kg of mass of PM2.5 (particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres).

Reacting to the report by Urban Emissions, Ritwick Dutta, environment lawyer, said the violation is not unexpected.

India: 22-yr-old woman raped by 2 men in Anand Vihar

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a property dealer and his associate on the pretext of providing her a job in Anand Vihar area, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, they added.

In her complaint to police, the woman alleged that the property dealer called her to his associate's office in Anand Vihar on the day of Diwali on the pretext of giving her a job and the duo raped her, a senior police officer said.

Sharad Yadav hits outs at BJP for renaming Muslim named cities

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) Opposition leader Sharad Yadav Friday accused the BJP of indulging in "drama" of changing names of cities, streets and roads, rather than fulfilling its electoral promises.

He asked the party's government at the Centre and in states to work to fulfil promises made by them before elections.

India: Election Commission bans exit polls from Nov 12 to Dec 7

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) The Election Commission on Friday imposed a near month-long ban on holding exit polls beginning November 12 in the five poll-bound states.

A notification issued by the poll panel said between 7 am of November 12 and 5.30 pm of December 7, "conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicising the result of exit poll by means of the print or electronic media or in any other manner shall be prohibited" .

While Chhattisgarh is going to polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram have elections on November 28.
