Britain sets deadline on Oct. 15 for EU to compromise: reports

LONDON, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Britain has set a deadline on Oct. 15 for the European Union (EU) to agree on a trade deal, otherwise the island country would go ahead with the Brexit without a deal, several major media reported on late Sunday.

Britain ended its EU membership on Jan. 31 this year but is still following EU rules during the transition period until Dec. 31 to enable a permanent future trade deal to be reached.

Montenegro’s ruling party supporters protest after vote loss

PODGORICA, Montenegro (AP) — Several thousand protesters waving Montenegro flags gathered in the capital on Sunday in a show of support for the ruling pro-Western party, which could lose power if the pro-Serb and pro-Russian groups manage to form a ruling coalition.

Although Montenegro’s long-ruling Democratic Party of Socialists won the most votes in the Aug. 30 vote, a coalition of three opposition parties together narrowly won the most seats in the 81-seat parliament, enough for them to try form the next government.

NATO plans to redeploy more US forces to Poland, says Russian defense minister

KUBINKA /outside Moscow/, September 6. /TASS/: NATO plans to redeploy another US military contingent to Poland in the near future, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told reporters on Saturday.

According to Shoigu, manpower of NATO Allied Command Operations deployed to Eastern Europe has surpassed 10,000 troops.

"In the near future additional American units are planned to be redeployed to Poland," Shoigu added.

Russia: Soyuz carrier rocket’s third stage failure detected in January fixed - Progress center

MOSCOW, September 6. /TASS/: The Progress Rocket and Space Center has eliminated the failure of Soyuz-2.1a upper stage that led to a postponed launch from the Plesetsk spaceport in January, the center told TASS.

"The failure of the third stage of Soyuz-2.1a rocket that was detected during the preparation for the launch in January 2020 has been determined and fixed in accordance with the established procedure," the press service said.

Russia’s Medical Chamber urges German doctors to team up in assessing Navalny’s condition

MOSCOW, September 5. /TASS/: Russia’s National Medical Chamber has called on Germany’s Medical Association to set up a joint group of experts to assess the condition of Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, Leonid Roshal, the chamber’s President, told reporters on Saturday.

"Many are concerned about Navalny’s fate, so the National Medical Chamber has called on the German Medical Association to establish an expert group in order to look into the main cause of Navalny’s state," Roshal said.

No reason to narrow discussions of Navalny case to Nord Stream 2, says German top diplomat

BERLIN, September 6. /TASS/: Discussions concerning the Navalny incident should not be narrowed to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

"In any case, I don’t think that Russians will make us change our position on Nord Stream 2. Those who demand it need to realize the consequences," he said.

Serbian president informed Lavrov about results of his visit to Washington

MOSCOW, September 6. /TASS/: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the results of his visit to Washington, the Russian foreign ministry said on Sunday after their telephone conversation.

"Vucic informed [Lavrov] about the results of his meeting in Washington and upcoming talks in Brussels," the ministry said.
