VIENNA, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Iran is pressing ahead with its rollout of an upgrade to its advanced uranium enrichment programme, a report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog seen by Reuters on Monday showed, even as the West awaits Iran's response on salvaging its 2015 nuclear deal.

The first of three cascades, or clusters, of advanced IR-6 centrifuges recently installed at the underground Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) at Natanz is now enriching, the report said, the latest underground site at which the advanced machines have come onstream.

STOCKHOLM, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Swedish and Finnish rescue services began evacuating families and elderly passengers from a fire-stricken Swedish ferry in the Baltic sea late on Monday, but said the situation was calm and that no one had been injured.

About 70 out of around 300 people onboard were scheduled to be evacuated by helicopter as the powerless vessel was drifting toward the island of Gotland and risked running aground later on Monday, at roughly 2100 GMT.

GENEVA (AP) — Lawyers for Israeli diamond magnate Beny Steinmetz urged a Swiss appeals court on Monday to throw out testimony from a former first lady of Guinea that contributed to his conviction for corruption.

The case involves an alleged plot, dating to the mid-2000s, in which Steinmetz’s BSGR Group squeezed out a rival for mining rights for vast iron ore deposits in Guinea’s southeastern Simandou region. THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — One of three Dutch soldiers wounded in a shooting outside a hotel in downtown Indianapolis over the weekend has died, the Dutch Defense Ministry said Monday.

The commando died of his injuries “surrounded by family and colleagues,” the ministry said in a statement.

The soldier was one of three members of the Dutch Commando Corps who were shot and wounded early Saturday after what Indianapolis police believe was a disturbance outside the hotel where they were staying, authorities said.

MOSCOW, August 28. /TASS/: Russia’s COVID-19 case tally rose by 46,857 over the past day, while the death toll rose by 83 people, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Sunday.

Russia registered 47,093 cases and 90 deaths a day earlier, bringing the total since the outbreak of the pandemic to 19,405,923 and 384,083, respectively.

Recoveries rose by 28,223 over the past day, compared with 32,642 a day earlier, reaching a total of 18,495,961.

MOSCOW, August 28. /TASS/: Russia will look at the implementation of current agreements with the United States before negotiating an extending the program of cross-flights to the ISS (Russian cosmonauts on US spacecraft and US astronauts on Russia’s Soyuz vehicles), Director General of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov told TASS.

"So far we are not getting ahead of ourselves, let's see how the existing agreements will be implemented," Borisov said and recalled that at the moment there is an agreement with NASA on three cross flights. The first is set to take place this fall.
