Over 12 Million Stimulant Tablets Seized In Central Myanmar

YANGON, Sept 27 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities seized 12.55 million stimulant tablets worth over 18.8 billion kyats (over 8.95 million U.S. dollars), in the central region of Mandalay, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC), late yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotic police searched a vehicle in Patheingyi township of Mandalay region, last Thursday and confiscated the drugs.

Three suspects were arrested for the case, the committee said.

12 Missing After Vessel Capsized In Western Myanmar

YANGON, Sept 21 (NNN-MNA) – A total of 12 people went missing, after a vessel capsized on Tuesday, in western Myanmar’s Sagaing Region, the information team of Myanmar’s State Administration Council said, yesterday.

The vessel departed from Hkamti town and sank in a whirlpool, in the Chindwin River, near Panset village of Mingin township, Sagaing Region, at around 9:55 a.m. local time on Tuesday, the information team said.

The people reported missing included three company staff, six civilians, and three security personnel, it said.

Myanmar to participate in 20th China-ASEAN Expo with 80 booths

YANGON, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will exhibit its products at the 20th China-ASEAN Expo with 80 booths, Htein Lin, deputy director-general of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization under the Ministry of Commerce, told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Myanmar's entrepreneurs from 75 companies will showcase agricultural products, food products, aquatic products and gems and jewelry during the four-day trade fair.

Myanmar receives first shipment of Russia's Su-30 fighter jets, RIA reports

Sept 10 (Reuters) - Myanmar has received the first shipment of two Russian Su-30 fighter jets, Charlie Than, Myanmar's trade minister, told the Russian RIA state news agency in remarks published on Sunday.

"Two aircraft have already been delivered," Than told RIA on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, Russia's annual forum aimed at developing economic cooperation in the region and encouraging foreign investment, which starts on Sunday in the port of Vladivostok.

Myanmar Imported 35,000 Tonnes Fertilisers In A Week

YANGON, Sept 1 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar imported about 35,000 tonnes of fertilisers over a period of seven days, the state-run newspaper, the Global New Light of Myanmar, reported yesterday.

The fertilisers imported on Aug 12-18, totalled 14.7 million U.S. dollars, the newspaper reported, citing the Ministry of Commerce data.

In July, the country imported over 250,000 tonnes of fertilisers, which were worth 92.4 million U.S. dollars, the media report said.

Myanmar police seize 6.6 kg of heroin in northern state

YANGON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police have seized 6.6 kg of heroin worth over 160 million kyats (about 76,100 U.S. dollars) in the country's northern state of Kachin, said a release by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Sunday.

The seizure was made in the state's Mohnyin Township on Friday, said the committee.

On Saturday 182,000 stimulant tablets worth over 72 million kyats (about 34,200 dollars) were seized in an operation by anti-narcotics police who acted on a tip-off in eastern Myanmar's Shan state, it said.

Rock-loaded train hit by mine explosion in southern Myanmar

YANGON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A rock-loaded train was hit by a mine explosion on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway section in Mon State, southern Myanmar, according to the Mon State government.

No one was injured, but a section of the train track was cut off, an official from the state government told Xinhua on Sunday.

A freight train was also hit by mines on the Mandalay-Yangon railway section in the Bago Region in a similar incident on Friday.

Death toll from Myanmar's jade mine collapse rises to 33

YANGON, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the jade mine collapse in northern Myanmar's Kachin State rose to 33 on Wednesday, local police said.

"After three days of rescue operations, 33 bodies have been recovered," a police officer in Hpakant told Xinhua on Wednesday.

The collapse took place at around 3:00 p.m. local time on Sunday at the jade mine near Ma Na Village in Hpakant, the center of Myanmar's jade industry, with over 30 people reported missing.

19 Bodies Recovered After Landslide At Jade Mine In Myanmar

YANGON, Aug 15 (NNN-MNA) – A total of 19 bodies have been recovered until this afternoon, following a landslide at a jade mine in northern Myanmar’s Kachin State, local police said.

“Until 2:30 p.m. local time today, 19 bodies were retrieved. All the deceased are male. Search and rescue operations are underway,” Han Win Hlaing, a police officer from Hpakant police station, said today.

Myanmar Seized Over 60 Tonnes Of Illegal Timber In A Week

YANGON, Aug 11 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities seized over 61.34 tonnes of illegal timber across the country in a week, according to the state media today.

From Jul 31 to Aug 6, the authorities confiscated over 30.46 tonnes of teak, over 4.41 tonnes of hardwood and over 26.45 tonnes of other types of timber, in the country’s regions, states and Naypyidaw Union Territory, state media reported.

During the seven days, 14 offenders were charged in connection with the cases, along with the seizure of six vehicles and machines.
