Russia views Kiev's attacks on civilian facilities as "acts of desperation": official

MOSCOW, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Moscow views Ukrainian attacks on civilian facilities in Russia as "acts of desperation," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Peskov said that Ukraine is attempting to carry out "terrorist attacks" on Russian territory because Kiev is facing military failures.

"The Kiev regime is resorting to terrorist tactics," Peskov noted.

Peskov noted that Kiev has yet to succeed in the country's counteroffensive and is currently in a difficult situation.

Russia ready to switch to national currencies in trade with Africa – deputy PM

ST. PETERSBURG, July 29. /TASS/: Moscow is ready to switch to national currencies in trade with African countries, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the second Russia-Africa Summit.

"We have successful experience of settlements in national currencies within the Eurasian Economic Union and we are ready to share this experience. We are also ready to conduct trade with Africa particularly in Russian rubles, provided that economic operators find it convenient," the deputy prime minister noted.

Russia does not want military clash with US, says Putin

ST. PETERSBURG, July 30. /TASS/: Russia is ready for any scenario, but does not want a direct military clash with the US, the country’s President Vladimir Putin said when asked about the US side's provocations in Syria.

"We are always ready for any scenario, but no one wants this, and on the initiative of the American side we once created a special mechanism to prevent these conflicts. Our heads of certain departments communicate directly with each other, have the opportunity to consult on any crisis situation. This shows that no one wants clashes," Putin told reporters.

Russia: Drone crashes in farm near Taganrog, damage was reported — governor

MOSCOW, July 30. /TASS/: A drone fell down in the Daraganovka farm near Taganrog in Russia’s southern Rostov Region, damaging a one0family house and a car, the region’s governor Vasily Golubev said on Sunday.

"An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in Daraganovka farm. As a result, the roof of a one-family house and a car were damaged. No one was hurt," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to the governor, Russian defense ministry specialists are working on the site to identify who this drone belonged to.

MOSCOW, July 30. /TASS/: Russian air defense means brought down 44 Ukrainian drones over the past day, official spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov said.

"Air defense means destroyed 44 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over the day," the spokesman said.

Russia's Medvedev: We'd have to use a nuclear weapon if Ukrainian offensive was a success

MOSCOW, July 30 (Reuters) - Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who has sometimes raised the spectre of a nuclear conflict over Ukraine, said on Sunday that Moscow would have to use a nuclear weapon if Kyiv's ongoing counter-offensive was a success.

Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, a body chaired by President Vladimir Putin, said in a message on his official social media accounts that Russia would be forced to fall back on its own nuclear doctrine in such a scenario.

Russian navy to receive 30 new ships this year: Putin

ST. PETERSBURG, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Russian navy will receive 30 new ships in 2023 as the country continues strengthening its naval forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin said here Sunday.

Putin made the remark at the main naval parade being held in honor of Russian Navy Day. He said 30 ships of different classes would be added to the navy, including the Mercury corvette.

"The Russian side remains open, which cannot be said about the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians stick to their irreconcilable position, especially now that they are in quite an uneasy situation but, nonetheless, they keep rejecting any opportunity for dialogue," the Russian presidential spokesman said.
