Houthis threaten to bomb Saudi ports after coalition blocks their ships

24 Dec 2020; MEMO: Houthi militias yesterday threatened to bomb Saudi ports in the Red Sea after their oil tankers were blocked from reaching Al-Hudaydah port in Yemen, Al-Khaleej Online reported.

Foreign Minister of the Houthis' self-proclaimed National Salvation Government, Hisham Abdullah, warned that the militias would carry out revenge attacks on ports of countries which form part of the Saudi-led coalition.

14 War Prisoners Exchanged, Following Tribal Mediation In Southern Yemen

ADEN, Dec 23 (NNN-SABA) – A prisoner swap between the government and the Houthi rebels took place successfully yesterday, in the country’s southern province of Lahj, a military official said.

Nine fighters of the Houthi rebel group were set free, in exchange for the release of five government soldiers from the militia’s jails, local military source said.

He said, the exchange of prisoners between the two rivals occurred, under the auspices of local mediators.

Yemen's president orders formation of new power-sharing government

ADEN, Yemen, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's internationally-recognized President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi on Friday ordered the formation of a new power-sharing government, the state-run news agency reported.

According to a presidential decree, Hadi chose the former Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik to lead the new power-sharing government formed equally between the country's northern and southern provinces.

Yemeni Warring Military Factions Complete Redeployment

ADEN, Dec 17 (NNN-SABA) – Forces loyal to Yemen’s government and other military units of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), today completed redeployment plans in the country’s southern part, under Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s supervision.

Local military officials said, “The process of redeployment warring troops was completed successfully, under the auspices of observers of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition.”

“The Saudi-led coalition succeeded in ending military escalation in the strategic southern regions and reunited its two nominal allies,” the official said.

Yemeni separatists withdraw Aden under Riyadh pact

13 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Forces of the Yemeni separatist group known as the Southern Transitional Council (STC) started on Saturday to withdraw from the Aden province, southern Yemen, as part of implementing the military part of the Riyadh agreement, Anadolu Agency reports.

A member of a committee observing the implementation of the Riyadh agreement confirmed to Anadolu Agency that the STC forces began to withdraw from Aden and moved towards the frontlines in the Ad Dali' province.

UN says 233,000 killed in Yemen war in last 6 years

02 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The conflict in Yemen has claimed 233,000 lives over the last six years, Anadolu reported the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) saying yesterday.

In a report about the situation in the war-torn country, the UNOCHA said: "This large number is unfortunate and unacceptable."

At the same time, it stressed that these people have lost their lives since the start of the war in Yemen either directly due to the conflict or for reasons related to it.

164,000 People Newly Displaced In Yemen In 2020

ADEN, Nov 30 (NNN-SABA) – The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said yesterday that more than 164,000 people have been displaced, since the beginning of this year in Yemen, which has been witnessing a bloody conflict for nearly six years.

“Since the start of this year, over 164,000 people have been newly displaced in Yemen, mostly by conflict,” the international organisation said in a statement.

Yemen: Houthis claim killing of 8 Saudi soldiers in Marib

Yemen's Houthi rebel group has claimed the killing of eight Saudi soldiers in eastern Yemen, Anadolu reports.

"The missile force [of the group] managed, on Saturday evening, to target the joint operations room in the Tadawin camp in the Marib province, with a Badr-P ballistic missile, and the strike was accurate," the group's spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said late Sunday.

He added that the attack had killed eight Saudi commanders and soldiers, wounding seven others.
