Malaysian students allowed to enter China from Aug 24 — embassy

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (NNN-Bernama) — Foreign students holding valid Chinese residence permits for study are allowed to enter China from Aug 24, said China Embassy in Malaysia.

The embassy, in a Facebook post on Saturday, said it will accept visa applications from Malaysian students receiving long-term academic education in China from now on.

Malaysian Carmaker Proton Inked Deal To Sell Electric Vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysian national carmaker, Proton, signed a general distributorship agreement with smart Automobile Co., Ltd., to sell electric vehicles (EVs) and provide services in Malaysia and Thailand.

At a ceremony, witnessed by officials from various government agencies yesterday, both sides paved the way for the introduction of new energy vehicles, the national carmaker said, in a statement.

Malaysia uses foreign funds to train Myanmar refugees – FM

KUANTAN (Pahang, Malaysia), Aug 14 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian government is using foreign funds to cover the cost of skills training that will be given to Myanmar refugees, said Foreign Minister, Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said the government will not use public funds in an effort to help the refugees obtain skills in this country.

According to him, the country has so far not been able to absorb Myanmar refugees in the employment sector because they do not have the required skills.

Singaporean hiker believed lost while climbing in Malaysia

KOTA TINGGI (Johor, Malaysia), Aug 14 (Bernama) — A man from Singapore was reported missing after he was believed to have lost his way when climbing Mount Panti Barat in Malaysia’s southern state of Johor on Saturday. 

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Hussin Zamora said police were alerted of the incident by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) at about 7.10 pm last night.

He said a report was made by the victim, Neo Thiam Ming, 40, through the Malaysia Emergency Response Services (MERS 999) and it was relayed to JBPM, saying he had lost his way.

Malaysia, Japan Should Venture Into New Areas Of Cooperation Through Look East Policy – Malaysian Pm

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob wants new areas of cooperation related to environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives to be explored by Malaysia and Japan through projects and programmes implemented under the Look East Policy.

He said this included diversifying cooperation in the field of disaster crisis, ageing society, digital economy, Science, Technology and Innovation as well as green growth.

Malaysia Records Lowest Unemployment Rate Since Covid-19 Pandemic In June

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9  (NNN-Bernama) —  The unemployment rate in Malaysia continues to show a downward trend, recording 3.8 per cent in June 2022, which is the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Mustapa Mohamed.

He said the number of unemployed decreased to 630,600 people in June 2022 from 637,700 people the previous month.

Junta Not Cooperating On Humanitarian Aid To Myanmar, Says Malaysian Foreign Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Myanmar’s military junta has not provided the necessary cooperation to coordinate and deliver humanitarian aid to the country so far, said Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah. 

He said this included the proposed involvement of international organisations in the Myanmar Task Force for humanitarian aid missions such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and civil society organisations (CSOs) from other ASEAN countries.

Malaysia Reported 4,684 New COVID-19 Infections, 11 New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 4,684 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,705,824, according to the health ministry.

There are five new imported cases and 4,679 local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Another 11 deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,020.

The ministry reported 4,275 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,622,900.

Malaysia-Turkiye Ties Upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – FM Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia-Turkiye bilateral ties have been upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) effective from Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s recent visit to Ankara.

Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said moving forward, both countries have agreed to organise and conduct more discussions, both formally and informally, between the two countries’ Foreign Ministers.

“Prime Minister has just concluded a very successful visit to Ankara where he and President Erdogan had very fruitful meetings over several issues.
