KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia and the United States (US) value their longstanding bilateral ties and will continue working together on economic prosperity and security.

Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (picture) said this during a luncheon hosted in honour of the latter at a leading hotel here, Tuesday.

Pelosi and her congressional delegation arrived in Malaysia early Tuesday as part of the official visit to four Asian countries.

Pelosi leaves Malaysia, tensions rise over Taiwan visit

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi left Malaysia on Tuesday and was expected to visit Taiwan, escalating tensions with Beijing, which claims the self-ruled island as its own territory.

The plane carrying Pelosi and her delegation left from a Malaysian air force base after a brief stopover that included a lunch meeting with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, an official said on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to release details to the media.

Pelosi meets Singapore leaders at start of Asia tour

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held talks with officials in Singapore on Monday at the start of her Asian tour, as questions swirled over a possible stop in Taiwan that has fueled tension with Beijing.

Pelosi met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Halimah Yacob and other Cabinet members, the Foreign Ministry said.

Malaysia Reported 4,271 New COVID-19 Infections, Four New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 31 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 4,271 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,677,270, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 4,268 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Four more deaths were reported, pushing the death toll to 35,960.

The ministry reported 5,553 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,594,296.

Malaysia Hits Historic Milestone, Parliament Passes Anti-hopping Law

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia hit a historic political milestone Thursday when the amendment to the Federal Constitution to prohibit members of ‘Dewan Rakyat’ (House of Representatives) from changing parties or committing party-hopping was passed after it received two-thirds majority support from the house.

Through a bloc voting, 209 out of the 220 Members of Parliament (MPs) voted in favour of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill (No. 3) 2022, while 11 others were absent. 

Malaysia Reported 4,759 New COVID-19 Infections, Nine More Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 4,759 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,659,710, according to the Health Ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 4,756 cases being local transmissions, data released by the ministry showed.

Nine new deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 35,932.

The ministry reported 4,806 new recoveries, raising the total number of cured and discharged to 4,577,518.

Asean Foreign Ministers Urged To Keep Rohingya Issue High On Their Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (NNN-Bernama) — In urging the ASEAN Foreign Ministers to keep the Rohingya issue high on their agenda, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Myanmar Noeleen Heyzer also highlighted the community’s need for education to prevent a “lost generation”.

A media advisory issued on Tuesday during her two-day mission to Kuala Lumpur at the invitation of Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah noted that, Noeleen had also stressed on the importance of legal employment and protection for Myanmar migrant workers and refugees in Malaysia.

Ravichandran First Malaysian To Conquer K2

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (NNN-Bernama) — National solo climber T. Ravichandran, who is also a person with disabilities (PwD), has become the first Malaysian to raise the Jalur Gemilang at the summit of the world’s second highest mountain, K2 in Pakistan.

The 57-year-old, together with five other world-class solo climbers and accompanied by five sherpas (mountain guides), conquered the 8,611-metre K2 at 10.50 am local time on Friday (July 22).

Malaysia’s Total Trade Reaches Record High Of Rm270.39 Bln In June

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s total trade recorded double-digit growth of 43.3 per cent year-on-year in June 2022, reaching a record high of RM270.39 billion, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry Mohamed Azmin Ali said. 

He said Malaysia managed to maintain the positive momentum of economic growth through the export segment driven by encouraging performance in domestic exports and re-exports.
