NEW YORK, Apr 16 (APP): India has weaponized its legal system to limit free speech and harass journalists, particularly those in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, The New York Times reported Saturday, citing human rights activists.

In a dispatch from New Delhi, the newspaper said the clampdown on Kashmir’s media had intensified since 2019, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government revoked the state’s special status, bringing the disputed region under direct control of the federal government.

Pandemic May Intensify U.S. Workplace Prejudice Against Asian, Hispanic Colleagues

NEW YORK, Apr 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The COVID-19 pandemic may have amplified prejudicial attitudes against Asian and Hispanic colleagues in U.S. workplace, a new, U.S.-based survey showed.

The study, conducted by experts from Columbia University and Northwestern University, was released in the open-access journal PLOS ONE on Wednesday.

During the research, participants who had lost jobs due to COVID-19, as well as, those from counties with higher COVID-19 rates and lower concentrations of East Asians, showed greater prejudice towards East Asians in their responses.

About 30,000 Ukrainians returning home every day: UN relief agencies

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 14 (APP): More than 870,000 people who fled abroad since the Russian invasion on Feb. 24, have now returned to Ukraine, UN humanitarian agencies said in their latest emergency update, amid concerns about deteriorating food security inside the country.

Citing the State Border Guard Service, UN aid coordination office, OCHA, said that about 30,000 people are crossing back into Ukraine every day.

The recent returnees reportedly include women with children and older persons, compared to mostly men at the beginning of the escalation.

Covid-19: Global cases surpass 500 mln, with 6.18 mln deaths

The global case count amounted to 500,074,490, with 6,183,035 deaths worldwide showed the data.

The United States reported 80,456,912 cases and 986,019 deaths, both the highest counts around the world, accounting for more than 16 percent of the global cases and more than 16 percent of the global deaths.

Russia is the world's top exporter of combined oil and gas, and Russia and Ukraine are both major producers of grain, together accounting for around a third of global exports. World commodity prices have hit records, hurting countries that rely on imports.
