NAIROBI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Ministry of Health on Thursday issued an alert over the cholera outbreak after confirming 61 cases spread in six out of the 47 counties.

Patrick Amoth, the acting director-general of the Ministry of Health, said out of the 61 cases of cholera reported, 13 people were hospitalized, eight were treated and discharged and 40 were outpatient cases.

"The outbreak whose origin can be traced to a wedding festival has spread across Kenya," he said in a statement issued in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

NAIROBI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Thursday said that Chinese manufacturers are playing a positive role in the country's industrialization agenda.

Anthony Mwangi, the chief executive officer of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), said in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that Chinese industrialists have raised the standards of competition in the country, which has led to the development of more local innovations.

NAIROBI, Oct 4 (Reuters) - President Yoweri Museveni has removed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as commander of Uganda's land forces, the military said on Tuesday, after Kainerugaba repeatedly threatened on Twitter to invade neighbouring Kenya.

Kainerugaba, widely regarded as the de facto head of the military and his father's chosen successor, later said the comments were made in jest.

NAIROBI, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AUABC), established in 2009 to invigorate the fight against corruption, has been lobbying countries to ratify its convention to facilitate the elimination of the vice in the continent, an official said.

"We have been engaging with the relevant structures of the African Union to explain to all the member states the need to ratify the convention,"

NAIROBI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President William Ruto on Tuesday named his nominees to the Cabinet to help steer the country after the Aug. 9 general elections.

Ruto, who retained one serving cabinet secretary, appointed former deputy prime minister Musalia Mudavadi as the prime cabinet secretary, a newly created position.

He also appointed the former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Njuguna Ndung'u to be the cabinet secretary for the National Treasury.

NAIROBI, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's newly elected President William Ruto was sworn in as the country's fifth president at a ceremony in the capital, Nairobi on Tuesday.

Ruto took the oath of office in a peaceful handover ceremony attended by 20 African leaders including global dignitaries after a tightly contested election.

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The Tigray forces battling Ethiopian troops say they’re willing to abide by an immediate cessation of hostilities and participate in a peace process led by the African Union, a significant shift to which Ethiopia’s government has not yet responded.

The conflict in northern Ethiopia’s Tigray region has killed an estimated tens of thousands of people and left millions without basic services for well over a year after fighting erupted in late 2020.

NAIROBI, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Forces in northern Ethiopia's Tigray region that have been fighting the central government for nearly two years said on Sunday they are ready for a ceasefire and would accept an African Union-led peace process.

"We are ready to abide by an immediate and mutually agreed cessation of hostilities," the Tigrayan forces said in a statement.

Tigray has set up a negotiation team that is ready to be deployed "without delay", the statement said. The Ethiopian federal government said in June that the African Union should facilitate peace talks. 

NAIROBI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme Court of Kenya on Monday dismissed a petition challenging William Ruto as president-elect, paving the way for his swearing-in next week in line with the country's constitution.

A seven-judge bench unanimously agreed that Ruto met the constitutional threshold to be declared the east African nation's fifth president, putting to rest a weeks-long legal battle with his closest rival in the Aug. 9 presidential election Raila Odinga.
