India: Congress MP will not accept car as a gift

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 21 (PTI) Congress MP from Alathur Ramya Haridas Sunday said she will not accept the car which the Youth Congress workers in Kerala have decided to buy her as a gift through crowdfunding, which is in line with her state party chief's views.

A row erupted after the Alathur Youth Congress committee had decided to present a car to their MP and source the amount through crowdfunding.

India: 'Server' failure irritates customers at bank

Kanpur: "What is a server?" asked a lad at the branch of a nationalised bank at  Jajmau area on Monday. He was definitely confused. His question was very genuine as it has become an easy term for the disruption in the computerised activity.

Without it, the customers cannot afford banking transactions through a computer set. The customers either kill time in wait at the bank or annoy at the delay in completion of the work which remains disrupted due to a networking problem.

Dubai hotel businessman killed in Maharashtra

Thane, Jul21 (PTI) A 48-year-old businessman, who ran a hotel in Dubai, has been killed in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said Sunday.

Suresh Munaje, a resident of Mumbai who was into hotel business in Dubai, had a bungalow in Thane's Sahapur taluka where was staying for past few days, an official at the police control room said.

On the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, when Munaje was alone at the bungalow, some unidentified persons entered the premises by cutting its window grills, he said.

India: Actor Ajaz Khan sent to 14-day judicial custody for controversial videos

Mumbai, Jul 20 (PTI) A court here sent actor Ajaz Khan to judicial custody for 14 days on Saturday for allegedly uploading videos promoting communal hatred on a social media platform.

Khan was arrested by the cyber wing of the Mumbai police on July 17 and booked under IPC section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion).

The actor had posted two videos on a social networking website on July 9.

India: 345 infra projects show cost overruns of Rs 3.28 lakh cr

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) As many as 345 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have shown cost overruns to the tune of over Rs 3.28 lakh crore owing to delays and other reasons, a report said.

"Total original cost of implementation of the 1453 projects was Rs 18,32,579.17 crore and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be Rs 21,61,313.18 crore, which reflects overall cost overruns of Rs 3,28,734.01 crore (17.94% of original cost), "the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation's latest report for April 2019 said.

Indian Govt sweetens deal to attract bidders for Pawan Hans

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Having failed to privatise Pawan Hans last fiscal, the government has significantly diluted the terms of sale pertaining to employee retrenchment, asset sale and tax liability to attract bidders this time around, sources said.

As per the revised terms of sale proposed by the government, the successful bidder would be required to retain all permanent employees for a period of at least one year, as against two years stipulated earlier.

India: LIC offers Rs 1.25 lakh cr line of credit to fund highway projects

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) As part of innovative modes of financing to meet India's huge infrastructure appetite, insurance giant LIC has agreed to offer Rs 1.25 lakh crore line of credit by 2024, to fund highway projects, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

Keen on timely execution of the Rs 8.41 lakh crore ambitious Bharatmala project that aims to lay a grid of highways pan-India, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has been looking to harness various sources of finances including pension and insurance funds.

Taslima Nasreen gets one-year Indian residence permit

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen's residence permit has been extended for one year by the Union Home Ministry, officials said on Sunday.

Taslima, a citizen of Sweden, has been getting residence permit on a continuous basis since 2004

A Home Ministry official told PTI that her residence permit has been further extended for one more year till July 2020.
