India: 'Server' failure irritates customers at bank

Kanpur: "What is a server?" asked a lad at the branch of a nationalised bank at  Jajmau area on Monday. He was definitely confused. His question was very genuine as it has become an easy term for the disruption in the computerised activity.

Without it, the customers cannot afford banking transactions through a computer set. The customers either kill time in wait at the bank or annoy at the delay in completion of the work which remains disrupted due to a networking problem.

Very much of a routine problem the server blocks the system within a fraction of the second. Some depositors at the branch we're looking restless by this sudden glitch.

When the fat clerk in another cabin started work after the restoration of the server, the woman clerk, sitting at another counter, was not able to open the computer. She said the password was known to the chief cashier. So it took extra time in starting the computer.

At this particular branch, server failure remains a constant problem. One clerk told we have been bearing the problem for the past over a week.

Several other consumers said if the computer system stops the branch manager should make manual arrangement for depositing cash. But to their deep dismay, the banking officer cares a fig for the hapless customers.
