India: Congress holds "Maha Rally" in Kerala against CAA

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28 (PTI) Intensifying its protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, the Congress in Kerala took out a "Maha Rally" to the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday, in which various leaders, including former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram participated.

The rally, which began from Martyr's column, was led by KPCC President, Mullapally Ramachandran, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Ramesh Chennithala, besides Chidambaram.

India: Protest marches against CAA continue in Kerala

Kozhikode/Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 26 (PTI): Hundreds of students, women, youth and folk artistes on Thursday took out separate protest marches in Kozhikode against the amended Citizenship Act.

Women activists, belonging to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), also marched against the CAA holding aloft banners stating "stop murder of democracy" and also sat in front of Akashvani here in protest.

In another march, theatre artistes, mime and folk artistes took out a massive procession from the Mananchira Grounds in the port city.

India: Five held for attempting to block Karna CM's car

Kannur (Ker), Dec 25 (PTI) Five activists belonging to the ruling CPI(M) and Opposition Congress' youth wings, have been arrested in connection with the incidents relating to waving of black flags and attempting to block Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's car at nearby Pazhayangadi.

While three belong to the CPI(M)'s Students Federation of India (SFI), two are from the Youth Congress, police said on Wednesday.

The five have been arrested and remanded to 14 days judicial custody, they said.

India: Anti-CAA stir continues in Kerala; Black flags waved at Muraleedharan, Yediyurappa

Thiruvananthapuram/Kozhikode, Dec 24 (PTI) As anti-CAA protests continues across Kerala, Union Minister V Muraleedharan and Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa were shown black flags by students' outfits on Tuesday, even as various Muslim outfits took out a march to Raj Bhavan here.

A group of activists of Students Federation of India (SFI), the students' wing of the ruling CPI(M), waved black flags at Muraleedhran when he came to attend a function at the Town Hall in Kozhikode.

India: Mangaluru firing, detention of journos intensified anti-CAA protest in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 20 (PTI): National Highways were blocked and state-run buses from neigbouring Karnataka stopped at many places of Kerala on Friday by anti-CAA protesters,even s journalists, students and political party activists took out rallies against implementation of the controversial Act.

The killing of the two anti-CAA protesters in police firing and the detention of Malayali journalists in Mangaluru by local police triggered widespread protests across Kerala past mid night.

India: Kerala CM condemns detention of journalists in Mangaluru

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 20 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijyan on Friday strongly condemned the detention of journalists from the state in Karnataka, where two people were killed in police firing during anti-CAA protests, and said the onslaught on media freedom was a "fascist mindset."

"I strongly condemn the attempt to portray journalists as troublemakers and their news gathering equipment as weapons.

India: Anti-CAA stir continues in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 19 (PTI) Hundreds of activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India took out a protest march to Raj Bhavan here, the official residence of the Governor on Thursday, after senior Left leaders were detained during an anti-Citizenship Act protest in Delhi.

Raising slogans against the Centre, some of the protesters tried to jump the barricade, placed in front of the Raj Bhavan, and entered the high security area.

India: Country facing "explosive" atmosphere: Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday lashed out at the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), saying it was an attempt to "curb" freedom.

He said the country was facing an "explosive" atmosphere.

Speaking at a joint protest meeting organised by the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF and the Opposition Congress headed UDF, Vijayan said, "Our country is facing a severe crisis. This has been deliberately created by the central government".

India: CAB will not be implemented in Ker, says CM

Thiruvananthapuram/Kozhikode, Dec 12 (PTI) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the Citizenship (Amendment) bill, passed by Parliament, will not be implemented in the state, as hundreds of students of a local college in north Kerala took out a march and burnt the effigy of Home minister Amit Shah.

India: Wayalar rape accused thrashed by mob

Palakkad, Dec 7 (PTI) An accused in the Walayar rape and death case of two minor dalit sisters was on Saturday thrashed by a group of people following an altercation, police said.

M Madhu, the third accused in the case, who was acquitted recently by a lower court, allegedly got into an argument with the group near his house, the police said.
